It has been a relatively lean Yule for me, bookwise: I received just three books this year + one I bought myself with a token I was given.
- The Mojo Collection, The Ultimate Music Companion - unexpected but welcome.... "organised chronologically and spoanning seven decades, The Mojo Collection presents an authoritative and engaging guide to the history of the album via hundreds of the long-playing masterpieces, from the much loved to the little known.
- The Wizard Knight by Gene Wolfe - I specifically asked for this or Zindell's latest so was pleased to receive a volume "....full of magic swords, giants, monsters, faery, quests, love and honour: all the trappings of fantasy are here but in the hands of a master storyteller they are spun into a yarn of pure gold".
- Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell - selected by my brother "six interlocking lives; one amazing adventure. In a narrative that circles the globe and reaches from the 19th century to a post aopcalyptic future, David Mitchell erases the boundaries of time, genre and language to offer an enthralling vision of humanituy's will to power and where it will lead us".
- The Algebraist by Iain M. Banks- self-selected while I was shopping for gifts for others, it'll be the first new Banks I've read for some time.

No "real" books for me this year, but I did get The Complete Calvin & Hobbes. I can't complain.
I also picked up a few CD Audiobooks (I like to listen to them in the car) at Hastings' after-Christmas sale. Got "The Dark Tower V, VI, and VII", "Demons & Angels", and "Johnathon Strange & Mr. Norrell" all for $5.99 a piece. At that price I probably should have grabbed a few more, but nothing else really caught my eye.

I got more books than usual this year (which I'm not complaining about, as I've been in the mood for a lot of reading recently.) I got "The Magnificent Ambersons," by Booth Tarkington, "The Castle" by Franz Kafka, "The Stars, My Destination" by Alfred Bester, "The Fountainhead" and "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand, "Cry the Beloved Country" by Alan Paton, "The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" by Edward Gibbon, "Giant" by Edna Ferber, "Truman" by David McCollough, and "The Long Walk" by Slavomir Rawicz.
