Christmas Carol - Were Ghosts the Reason Scrooge Changed?

Re-reading the Christmas Carol, I began to think that perhaps there are more logical reasons for Scrooge's transformation. Anybody have any other human explanations for his change? This is not saying that the ghosts never visited him, just more evidence that motivates him.

Scrooge wanted to be loved, but no one loved him.

He THOUGHT being rich would make people like him, but he was wrong.

If you want to be humanistic and insist the ghosts were dreams - his dreams finally made him realize what he knew all along - that it was kindness and generosity that make people like you, not the power you have over them.

Personally, I like the ghosts aspect, even given the fact that I write Christmas stories about a realistic Santa Claus - which goes along with YOUR theories.

I'm not 100% sure logic has to feature in a fiction/fantasy which, almost by definition, might often involve a suspension of disbelief.

Based on the text, and following your re-reading, what are the more logical reasons that you have unearthed?
