Oh my God. I'm on cloud 9, or 17, or something.

Mods: I know that anything that has to do with something that potentially might be sold is problematic here. I've even agreed with the closing of threads after a time when they degenerate into sales threads vs. discussion threads.

But... but... I wanna say something that has me on cloud 9 or even higher.

Ok? If this degenerates into a book pitch, then I'll request it to be closed, but for now, I just wanna be happy and share this news with everyone here.

And if you think it needs to be in Book Talk, that's fine, too, move it, but this is more of a "oh my god I'm on cloud 9" thread at the moment, at least for me.

Did I say I'm on cloud 9?

Enough caveats, dish already. . .

Seeker posted at exactly 4:20. I think that explains it. ;)

My first children's book, "The Blacksmith's Gift" has been selected as one of the top three independently published (publishers with like 1-25 books in their category) books by "Publishers Marketing Association" - and is thus a finalist for the BENJAMIN FRANKLIN AWARD in the category of juvenile/young adult fiction.

This is a coveted national award. Certainly there are multiple awards in multiple categories (mystery, health, etc), but they've now said we (Second Star Creations) have one of the best 3 independently published children's books of 2004!!!!

Guess where I'm going to be on June 1!!!! (Yes, I'll probably clap for the actual winner, but you never know....)

Here's part of the email:

----------------------------------------

Congratulations! Your title, The Blacksmith's Gift, has been named as one of three finalists in the 2005 Benjamin Franklin Awards competition, in the following category: Juvenile/Young Adult Fiction.

The 2005 Benjamin Franklin Award winner will be chosen from one of the three finalists and will receive the Benjamin Franklin Award during a ceremony on Wednesday evening, June 1, 2005 at the New York Marriott Marquis, located at
1535 Broadway in downtown New York City, to which you and your staff are invited. The awards party will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a cocktail reception.

The actual awards will be presented at 7:15 p.m. and will hopefully be concluded by 9:00 p.m. Enclosed (in a letter being mailed to you) are 2 tickets to this event. If you need more tickets, please let us know (the cost is $25 each). IF YOU WILL NOT BE ATTENDING THE AWARDS CEREMONY, PLEASE LET US KNOW SO WE CAN ACCEPT THE AWARD ON YOUR BEHALF.

kvrdave 04-05-05 06:43 PM

That is so freaking awesome. Am I right that the worst you could do is have a bronze medal on your book? That is so sweet.

Just imagine what this copy will fetch on ebay.

Way to go Seeker!

If you want me to take care of the other two finalists, I know some guys ...

kvrdave 04-05-05 11:25 PM

I formally requested that my library pick it up. They said they would. Chalk up one more sale :D

Seeker 04-05-05 11:38 PM

Library requests are good. And this finalist Ben Franklin Award thing can't hurt.

Thanks.

As for frying the other two finalists - let me find out who they are - the announcements actually get released later this week after everyone submits "corrections and make sure we don't mis-spell things" emails.

I'll bet I get two more sales - I plan to buy their two books, and I bet they reciprocate!

Seeker 04-05-05 11:51 PM

Oh, yeah, bronze medal - yeah even a finalist can do the bronze medal thing.

Time to get the tongue ready - or are they self-sticky? Note to self - find out.

RaraFemina 04-06-05 07:31 AM
