What Are You Reading? Part 32 (Feb 05)

I'm currently in the middle of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

How about you?

jdodd 02-01-05 09:26 AM

Just finished Stephen King's Dark Tower 6 and Dan Simmons's Hyperion.

Currently plowing through Dark Tower 7.

Next will be the rest of the Hyperion series.

Also taking a peek here and there at The Pythons: An Autobiography by The Pythons.

Yep, it's an ARC. I've read the first half or so and it's very good.

I was on a panel with Jim Swain a couple years ago at a conference and he's a fascinating guy. He can do magic tricks and sleight-of-hand stuff that will blow your mind.

I'm reading Kiss Me, Judas by Will Christopher Baer. I still don't know how I feel about it, but I bought his trilogy already so I will continue to give it a shot.

Continuing my Michael Slade kick with Primal Scream, the sixth book featuring the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Special X unit. Really enjoying this series, good mystery element and lots of interesting facts woven into the stories. Fairly gruesome content, especially Ghoul, but well done anyway and not much worse than the usual forensic thrillers out there.

I loved that book. The "Monster" in Shelley's story is nothing like Universal's classic portrayal.

Anyway, I'm halfway through "Sister of the Dead" by Barb and JC Hendee and I just picked up "UNDERWORLD: BLOOD ENEMY" which is prequel to the movie UNDERWORLD. I think it's going to deal with what started the war between the Vampires and the Werewolves.

I just finished The President of Good and Evil

and I just started Blink

And I just finished Blink, pretty interesting stuff.

I just started and bout to finish another short one Race Matters.

Afterwards, I'm leaning towards The Hobbit to break up all this non-fiction stuff.

I'm about 100 pages into The Godfather Returns and finding it a lot better than I expected it to be.

dcswirl 02-03-05 11:59 AM

I would go with A Game of Thrones. Great start to a great series. I'm currently reading Temple of the Winds by Terry Goodkind. Pretty good, but I must admit I will drop it in a second once G.R.R. Martin's next book comes out.

Right now all I'm doing is reading materials for my thesis.

Such thrilling titles like:

"The EU compendim of spatial planning systems and policies: Denmark"
"Denmark/Germany: Experiences for Multiregional regions - The STRING Project"

And who can forget the best seller:

"The Planning Act" (Denmark's)

Yeehaw!

RaraFemina 02-04-05 07:01 AM

I am currently reading "Tampa Triangle-Dead Zone" by Capt. Bill Miller. Pretty dissappointed in it so far. Supposedly it is filled with facts "you NEED to know" but I think he made half of the book up. It's basically alien conspiracies, ghosts, pirates, sunken treasure, things of that nature. It isn't written very well either.
Next book I am going to read is "The Inspirational Writings of C.S. Lewis".

Draven 02-04-05 04:52 PM

Just finished up the David Gemmell's Rigante quadrilogy and hopped back to his first "Drenai Saga" book "Legend." Pretty good so far. I like his writing style.

I tried the first Discworld book but it reminded me too much of Douglas Adams and I didn't find it as funny. Kinda "meh." I got about halfway through it without trying very hard and dropped it for "Legend."

birdseye 02-04-05 10:51 PM

Finished Michael Connelly's The Concrete Blonde.

Up next is James Patterson's The Big Bad Wolf.

PalmerJoss 02-05-05 08:53 AM

Just finished up Carlos Ruiz Zafon's The Shadow of the Wind, which was an amazing book that I would recommend to everybody.

I'm trying to figure out what I want to read next, either Blue Blood by Edward Conlon or The Gunslinger by Stephen King.

cupcake jesus 02-05-05 11:09 AM

Currently reading Bobby Fischer Goes to War, then moving on to the Michael Chabon novella The Final Solution, then settling into Alexander the Great by Robin Lane Fox. I also just finished Batman: The Long Halloween by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. Hadn't read a comic book in a while, and I was pleasantly surprised. It was a great, quick read with fantastic art.

cheers,

-the Jesus
