AP style questions

I wasn't quite sure which forum to put this in, so perhaps the book forum. My AP style book is packed away in some boxes I can't find, and I'm trying to figure out two editing situations.

First... are television shows quoted or italicized? i've been looking over the internet but each site seems to go back and forth since most sites compile from different guides.

Second... if something is ranked as #1 or #2 or whatever, is that the correct representation, or is it No. 1, or number one?

If someone knows the answer to these, or can check for me, I'd be grateful. Thanks.

From a newspaper copy editor:

1. Television shows are in quotes. Italics aren't used because they don't transmit over the wire. (I imagine they have the technology to fix that problem, now.)

2. For rankings, use No.1, No. 2, etc.

Thanks for the response. Is that from an AP style source, or another? Normally I wouldn't care but the thing I'm working on is strict on the AP only.

I'm a copy editor and funkyryno's post is correct.

Italics are never used within the body of a story. Italics are used as a style in certain (limited) situations. An example would be an editor's note or e-mail address at the end of a story.

Another AP editor, and they're correct. Italics I personally prefer, but AP style dictates you don't use them.
