Vague Book Request...
I'm sorry for the vagueness of this request but I'm really looking for a book where the author basically just describes his social, political, etc. views and explains why he or she has them.
Any ideas? |
Any book where the author sets forth political or social ideas? Just go to the nearest college bookstore and ask what's being assigned in the introductory Political Philosophy classes.
Depending on what you're looking for, you could read anything from John Locke's Two Treatises of Government to The Leviathan by Thomas Hobbes to Das Kapital by Karl Marx to The Social Contract by Jean-Jacques Rousseau to The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand. |
Or even Rush Limbaugh or Al Franken.
Much more entertaining are the satires Gulliver's Travels by Swift and Candide by Voltaire. |
Maybe Speak, Memory by Vladimir Nabokov?
The late Vladimir Nabokov always did things his way, and his classic autobiography is no exception. No dry recital of dates, names, and addresses for this linguistic magician--instead, Speak, Memory is a succession of lapidary episodes, in which the factoids play second fiddle to the development of Nabokov's sensibility. I haven't read it yet, so I'm not 100% sure this fits, but I just read his 'Pale File' and 'Lolita' and was considering this as my next book by him. |
I forgot to mention that i'd like something contemporary if possible. Thanks for the suggestions though.
