book party, need "love story" advice
alright, this is an odd request, given this group but i thought i'd take a shot.
i have been invited to an engagement party where we were told to bring our favorite love stories for the couple. the problem is everything i've read on the subject is either bizarre or filled with drama/trauma (both of which i don't think a couple beginning a new chapter in their lives would enjoy).
any suggestions for an uplifting love story that they might enjoy??? (and please, god, no nicholas sparks!!!)

Pride and Prejudice, Emma and Sense and Sensibility, all three by Jane Austen. I have yet to meet a woman who dislikes either, and most of us love these novels.
Stories with more drama/trauma, but still classic "love stories" include Jane Eyre (charlotte bronte), Wuthering Heights (emily bronte), Romeo and Juliet (shakespeare), and The Thornbirds (colleen mccullogh - this one is more of an epic with a love story included).
Lesser known but still quite good - Persuasion, jane austen.
In case you didn't catch it already, I'm quite a Jane Austen fan.
Check out www.austen.com for info on her novels. If none of those catch your fancy, the bronte sisters also spin a good yarn, although more gothic and tragic, imo.
