Bulgakov's Master & Margarita help

Yeah, maybe this should go in Book Talk, but then no one would ever see it....

Anyway, a theatre company is doing an adaptation of this book. I have 3 days to come up with a monologue that the character of Ivan might say. I haven't read the book, and don't have time to. I found a stage version of this story though. I need help!!! Anyone read the book and can point me in the right direction?

Yeah, I'll be happy if I get two responses that are on topic..... Anyone read Slavic literature anymore?

I've read it, but it's been a few years. I would drag out my copy, but an ex-girlfriend gave it to me and, uh, most of those things didn't survive the burning.

Chap. 11, has him going into a breakdown i think.

chap. 13, he speaks with the Master.

chapter 3, has some of Ivan contemplating the events he had just heard from the foreign professor (devil)

beginning of chapter 1 has some mention of Ivan being a rebellious type of person, the commissioning of an anti-religious poem, but he paints Jesus in dark hues.

Chapter 4 has him chasing after the devil again, but I don't remember if he speaks anything, he thinks alot in it though.

Ch.7 has him entering the institution.

Ch.8 he's got a monologue going on about how'd he get there (institution).

That's about all the chapters I remember that specifically references him, one of the last chapters has Master telling him to continue with the story of Master's novel.

Hope this helps you somewhat.

Also, if you're near CSULB, there's a teacher on campus there that teaches slavic literature, well Eastern European literature right now. Name's Vlatka Velcic.

Sorry. It's been too long since I've read it. I recall that Ivan's main job was to be the dull center of the story with whom the reader could identify.

Thanks for the answers. Look4sheep, your breakdown helped a lot.

And yeah, from the parts of the book I read, Ivan seemed really boring.
