Seeker wrote a BOOK??? !!!

Hi to all. I hope I'm not stepping on some unwritten DVDTalk rule by writing this, but I have been around for about 5 years here, so maybe this announcement will come across well - and I won't be banished (horrors) to the book forum.

Many of you know I quit my day job to pursue a dream - a COSTLY dream, but one which was important to me - to write books.

I guess I've achieved some of my goals - I got published in Akiko #50 as a comic book writer, and I also co-wrote "Infertility's Anguish" with my wife Jan.

But I always wanted to write children's books - and now I can announce that I've been published as a children's book author as well.

It's called "The Blacksmith's Gift"; it's a heavily illustrated Christmas story, and I'd be remiss if I didn't say "I hope you buy it!" I'm prejudiced, but I think it would make a great Christmas gift for either the target audience (kids 7-12) or for adults who still have that kid at heart in them. It's official publication date is today! Check out:

We DO have a nationwide distributor (Biblio Distributors), and we hope to have it in bookstores just a shade before Christmas. (The bad news - we need to learn about timing - we're told we're too late for anything significant for this Christmas, bookstores order Christmas books in MAY!)

But there are two sequels planned, so we'll get that right next time!

So, for now, I'm announcing that "The Blacksmith's Gift" is now available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble, or can be ordered from your local bookstore.

So, if you have any interest in a really nice children's Christmas Story that also has appeal for adults, or just want to see what I've been up to, you can check out Amazon:

The Blacksmith's Gift at Amazon

or Barnes & Noble:

The Blacksmith's Gift at Barnes & Noble

If you are at Amazon, don't forget to click the "See more pictures" under the picture of Blacksmith's Gift - it has 8 pictures from the book! (link is below)

Finally, if you don't want to buy a copy, it would be great if you went to the local library and asked for a copy of Blacksmith's Gift (ISBN: 0-9725977-4-3) - they almost certainly won't have it yet - but they CAN get it from Quality Books (the biggest library distributor), so then you could check it out!

Thanks for reading.

I hope each and everyone of you are achieving your goals and dreams.

PS - If I got the dvdtalk links to Amazon or B&N messed up, can someone fix it for me? And if this is totally inappropriate, just email me and I'll delete it.

Way to go, Seeker! As a Jew with no kids, I'm probably not your target audience, but my hat is off to you for doing something like this. I hope it sells a million jillion copies and gets optioned for a movie!

I don't have any kids either, but that didn't stop me! But yeah, you probably aren't the direct target - but you never know. Thanks for the best wishes.

Very nice, congratulations! How did you find an illustrator or was that set up by the publishing company?

It was set up by the publishing company, but since I helped establish the Kansas City based small press company, we picked an illustrator I had "met" (virtually) on the internet who had illustrated the Akiko comic book I wrote.

His name is Matthew Armstrong - you can see more of his work at www.matthewart.com

Congratulations! It's also a dream of mine to be published, so it's good to know some of us are getting through. :)

The Blacksmith has a gift for you... it's in his diaper, and it's not a toaster.

 Based on the cover illustration, I was wondering just what might the Blacksmith's gift be? ;)

Good choice, in addition to the stuff on his site I saw the illustrations up on Amazon. Someday you will have to read to us while we munch on milk'n cookies.

I just looked at this to see what it was all about...and I ended up ordering one! My kids love to read (plus it's set in Norway, where my family is from) and it looks excellent.
Congrats!

I laughed very, very hard when I read that.

Seeker 10-01-04 05:22 PM

Thanks to all the folks saying congrats! I appreciate it. My savings account hates me after two years, but my emotions say it was worth it.

As to those of you making jokes about "The Blacksmith's Gift" - yeah, I know, but for those of you wondering what the "gift" is and examining the cover too closely - SHAME ON YOU! ;) (Go visit my Hermione picture in Adult Talk, why don'tcha?)

So, there will be sequels - but instead of "The Blacksmith's Revenge", it will be "An Orphan's Promise" - and yes, I can think of all the jokes about that title as well!
