No, I ordered from Amazon, a while ago - I had a free overnight shipping coupon I used, so...

Anyways, I couldn't take having this on my porch for too much longer, so I quickly left work to go home and threw it into my garage - good thing too - it was a huge box with a big ol' amazon logo on it, easily visible from the street.

Well, I should qualify my post. I had to look under the table where I saw several boxes marked with "Complete Calvin and Hobbes, Do not open until October 4."

I pulled a box out myself and openned it. Otherwise, there were no copies set out.

I checked my Costco today (Fairfax, VA) and couldn't find a copy. I had an employee look it up in the computer and they told me it was an online-only item...

This was the last purchase I made with the Amazon Share The Love discount so thankfully I got this set at $85.05.

Got them today from Amazon. Free shipping too, took just one day from Nevada to California via UPS!

The Costco in Arundel Mills Maryland had them out for $80.99. At least five left as of 6:30pm last night.

it arrived!

When I went home for lunch, this was waiting for me. As much as I knew it was going to be heavy, i wasn't prepared at how heavy it turned out to be!

I didn't have a lot of time to look through the set, but here are some of my first impressions:
- very heavy!
- the 3 individual books seem very sturdy. they should hold up to plenty of readings.
- a little difficult to get the books out of the case.
- the new 14 page introduction is fantastic, it even has some examples of earlier work by Watterson. He seems to be in a happy place right now and is proud of the work he's done on Calvin and Hobbes.
- on the bottom of each page you see the dates the strips were first published.
- the watercolor strips he did for some of the collections appear in these books in what seems to be around the time he did them.
- the watercolor covers he did for the collections are also throughout these books.
- the coloring of the Sunday strips from his earlier strips is MUCH improved over what we've seen in the previously collected strips.

I have a feeling all i'll be doing tonight is reading these! If you're on the fence about these, they are definitely worth it! If you're not into Calvin and Hobbes and knows someone who is, these would make fantastic bday or xmas presents!!!

Tracking shows the package leaving 500 miles from here last night. Maybe Thursday or Friday it will get here.

I'm worried that since it's the USPS the mail carrier will just leave me a note saying "sorry we missed you. come pick it up".

That's what she always does with anything over two pounds. Maybe I'll sit outside and wait and see if she gives me that note.

Useless tracking info from the USPS has said "Sender has notified us of a package pickup" for 5 days now!! What's the point of the tracking number if you're not going to update the system at all!!

I ordered from Overstock late Thursday afternoon (the 29th) and just got my shipping confirmation late last night. Not bad. Now to see how long it takes to get it into my hot little hands. I am far more excited about this collection than the Far Side Collection.

I wonder if the guys doing Schultz's Peanuts wished they had released his collection in the same kind of format. That would have been freaking huge. I am not a big Peanuts fan but how many hardback books would it take for his complete collection if they were approx the same size as Far Side's/Calvin & Hobbes's books?

Mine shipped from Overstock yesterday. I'm four hours from their shipping facility.

If it's media mail, it should take about a week.

I'm not sure if it's available online but today's Cleveland Plain Dealer has a cover story on the reclusive artist and his new book. He lives just outside of Cleveland. It mentions a rare exclusive interview, but I haven't read it yet.

It's online. Rare Interview with Bill Waterson from 19 years ago.

Yep. Just read it and they show a photo of him from 1986 along with the story and a little sidebar on the new book.

I wish they had posted the photo online. I was curious what he looked like.

Amazing to find someone so private in today's day & age and able to keep it that way. So many people want to air their dirty laundry on TV or it is done for them by the fanatic paparazzi it is refreshing to see stories like this one.

It is also refreshing in seeing no Calvin & Hobbes salt & pepper shakers everywhere.

As mentioned in the story he looks like the dad in the cartoon strip only he has a moustache. Skinny, balding dark hair, glasses, kinda geeky!

I was going to buy mine at Sam's but didn't know if they would have it and what price. So, I pulled the trigger at Overstock in August and still haven't gotten mine yet!
