Please recommend a good WWII book.

I have never really read a book about this subject even though I admire movies based on it. I would like to read about it from both sides, Allied and Axis (in english, preferable from German perspective). Accounts and stories from both sides dont have to be in the same book but if they are all the better.

Thanks!

You can't really go wrong with any of Stephen Ambrose's books about WW2, which include:

Band of Brothers
Citizen Soldiers
D-Day
The Victors

Ambrose's Citizen Soldiers is a good start. Pretty easy reading.

The Wild Blue is also a good book about the B-24 Bombers of WWII and what they had to go through. Actually my first Ambrose book. I've seen it on the bargain books recently at BN or waldenbooks.

I would say, based on your description here, you would do good to read John Toland's Adolf Hitler, and his The Rising Sun (which he won the Pulitzer for). He was known for presenting 'both sides'. Also, Enemy at the Gates by William Craig looks like a real good one as well (the story of the snipers the movie is based on is only a fraction of what the book covers). Although I haven't read it yet, it's on my list.
