Stephen King's PET SEMATARY - greatest cliff-hanger ever?? Draw your conclusions...
Stephen King never gave that horrific novel an ending. It is the one true case where it is left to the reader's imagination what happens after

The subsequent movie, however, gives its own interpretation by having Spoiler:
But the thing is, the novel drops hints that Spoiler:
So. What do the readers of the novel think happened to the Creed family Spoiler:

Unless I'm mixing up the movie and the book (and I read the book way back when it was first released), the ground in the cemetery was spoiled, and anything put in there came back wrong.
I always assumed that something horrible happened just after the book ended. Sort of like in a b-movie or the EC Comics King is so fond of. |
I think it is implied that Louis is killed by his wife. (sorry, don't know how to cover up with spoilers).
|
There is another caption early in the book that indicates that Louis lives on. The caption reads something like this: when Louis thinks back on what happens - whenever he can bring himself to think about it at all...
So I don't think Louis dies. There's no reason to think that Spoiler:

Wasn't the point of Louis burying his wife quickly that there wouldn't be time for her to be corrupted by evil or something? Can't remember ... been so long since I've read this book.

I always assumed Rachel kills him. It wouldn't be a Stephen King story if they lived happily ever after. Besides, King wrote the screenplay, so I don't think he would have put that ending in the movie if Rachel didn't kill Louis.

Hence still being alive. |

Pet Cemetary was one of his better efforts at making a movie IMO. Not amazing, but at least a counterweight to the other shit that gets put out.

I just always assumed that Rachel killed Louis. Everything that went in the Pet Sematary came back murderous, so I see no reason not to assume the same here.

Whoa whoa. Are you saying Louis is in the Dark Tower series?? where??

one difference between the book and the movie I recalled was the omission of Pascal's death sequence, as I recall it is vividly described, in the movie it's downplayed, yet... in a Fangoria magazine article, the filmmakers describe filming a very graphic death sequence that seems to be missing from the final cut of the film.

Nowhere in the book's ending is it implied that Rachel has killed or is going to kill Louis. You people are only remembering that from the film's ending. The book ended with Louis waiting for Rachel and the final words were, "darling," it said when she finally arrived. The it implies she went bad and thus he has failed to bring her back fast enough from the dead. He was probably smart enough to kill her after that, knowing she was 'not right.' One of the best endings to a book ever.
