Loved DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS, any other recommendations?
i don't know if it was the post-apocolyptic milieu, or a British style of writing, but something about the book made it a great read for me.
any other mid 20th century earth bound British sci-fi, or post apocolyptic tales anyone can recommend? |
Although not fully meeting the <i>British</i> criterion, my stock answer is::<ul><li>Rex Warner - <A HREF="http://www.brothersjudd.com/webpage/burgess99best.htm#aerodrome" target="_blank">The Aerodrome</a><li><A HREF="http://www.raybradbury.com/about.html" target="_blank" style="text-decoration:none">Ray Bradbury</a> - <A HREF="http://home.golden.net/~csp/cd/reviews/f451.htm" target="_blank">Farenheit 451</a><li>Yevgeny Zamyatin - <A HREF="http://www.sfsite.com/10a/we66.htm" target="_blank">WE</a><li>Margaret Atwood - <A HREF="http://endeavor.med.nyu.edu/lit-med/lit-med-db/webdocs/webdescrips/atwood157-des-.html" target="_blank">The Handmaid's Tale</a></li></ul>Already on the main Book Talk list (see below) but, for that pessimistic British "feel", I'd <i>recommend</i> "The Twilight of Briareus" by Richard Cowper and also refer you to the following Usenet list: http://urlcut.com/postapocalypse
From this forum the main <A HREF="http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&action=showpost&postid=2105952#2105952" target="_blank">list</a> so far can be found in the <A HREF="http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=186446" target="_blank">"end of the world"</a> thread. Mentioned there, but something I doubt that would be my kind of series, were the Left Behind books which have their own discussion <A HREF="http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=124975" target="_blank">here</a> and which may be of interest to you. |
