Eragon Opinions?

I saw Eragon in the bookstore, and it isn't very expensive so I thought of picking it up... but I haven't done it yet. I was wondering if anyone has read it, and how it is. I searched and in another thread someone said it is the "American follow up to Harry Potter". I really like the Harry Potter series, but is this just the same story reahshed or something? Thanks.

The only thing I know about it is that the author was like 17 when he wrote it. I'm pissed about that because I'm jealous.

Ok thanks. So, nobody has read this book yet? I guess I'll have to buy it and find out how it is for myself.

I know a lot of people are enjoying this book ... kids and adults alike. I read the first couple of chapters and could not get into it because the sentences were all very short, making the flow seem really choppy to me. But hey, maybe I was just in a mood ....

I just read this book and really enjoyed it. It is Potter-esque in the sense of a boy gaining and learning about his powers (but it reminded me more of Luke Skywalker than Harry Potter). I was a bit slow to warm up to it, I think he spends a lot of time setting the scene but it builds up momentum as it goes.

Hadn't heard of the books until now....

Fox 2000, a division of 20th Century Fox announced that they have bought the rights for Eragon and are scheduled to release the film in 2005.

"We read the book very early in manuscript form when the family was trying to self-publish it," says Elizabeth Gabler, president of Fox 2000 said in an article in USA Today (1/20/04). "We found the core relationship between a boy and a dragon who share a telepathic connection a strong concept for a movie."
Did they ever make a film/cartoon series of McCaffrey's dragon books?

There was a Pern TV series very deep into preproduction before the plug was pulled, not too long ago either. Not sure what happened.

I remember seeing this book at the store and being somewhat interested. I'm guessing it's not part of an established series?

tks

It is the first book of (what they hope will be) a series. The author is working on the second book.

I read this book not too long ago. Although it has a very slow start, it picks up quite a bit and becomes pretty exciting near the end. It isn't bad for a book written by a 15 year old.

I will pick up the sequel when it comes out.

Here's a case that shows that marketing is everything.

It also doesn't hurt when your parents own a publishing company, huh?

Yeah, no kidding. That and they dropped everything to tour the country to promote the book. It was during the tour where they caught the eye of a "real" publisher.

I'm amazed that a 15-year-old kid could write a book that has become so popular. I definitely admire him, despite reports that the story is basically a different take on Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Haven't read the book myself, but I might check it out at the library some time.

I finished this last week and really enjoyed it. I was in Border's last night and they've re-released it with the first few pages of the second book, and a foldout map. The excerpt from the next book is pretty intense, and you can tell his writing is getting better.

I have this from the library, and will read it in the next couple of days. I also picked up Artemis Fowl, and I thoroughly enjoyed all three books.

I just read this, and I found it to be well-written and an enjoyable story. I am anticipating the next book in the trilogy, Eldest.

I saw that the next book in the series is coming out in August. That's a busy summer with this and Harry Potter coming out a month before.

Eragon

Has anyone read this? I was in doubt when I started it but I just got sucked in more and more as I read. Amazing.

I heard they're bringing a film out based on it? Anyone know where I can find out some more about this?

Book was entertaining enough, and have to say sucked me in a little bit...On an off topic note, I am assuming by your name that you are a Parkour runner?

Me too. I wrote a fantasy "novel" in my teens and was working on a 3rd draft. The thing still sits in my study. I am 32 years old now. A publisher of fiction written by teens was interested in reading it back in the day (after I sent them a short story). But it was in terrible shape and I was embarrassed to send it. Maybe one day.

I am slightly interested in reading this. I saw Eldest in the store and it is a BEAST.
