Books received as presents this week....?

I have so far received:
  • Life A User's Manual by George Perec
  • The Encyclopedia of Cult Children's TV by Richard Lewis
And have been led to believe that a further three works will emerge if/when I hook up with my sister and mum!
  • David Zindell's latest
  • The Iron Grail by Rob Holdstock
  • something or other by Alastair "Revelation Space" Reynolds
I am certain that these will all be excellent!

List your new titles here or, if you got tokens, what you are planning to buy.

I got A Gentle Madness - Bibliophiles, Bibliomanes, and the Eternal Passion for Books by Nicholas A. Basbanes.

It's a large tome (500+ pages, plus notes, bibliography, etc.) which explores various aspects of psycho bookaholics throughout the ages, like myself.

Haven't begun reading it yet, but it looks like it'll be great reading.

[true to form]Oh yeah, and it's a first edition, first printing hardback in excellent condition.[/true to form]

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
The Da Vinci Code
The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency box set (and I bought #4 myself)
Kevyn Aucoin: A Beautiful Life
The Princess Bride
Dude, Where's My Country?

No books, but I did receive a forty dollar Barnes and Noble gift card and about a hundred and fifty bucks cash from assorted grandparents. I plan on doing some serious damage in the coming months at the local book stores!

I'm sad to admit it, but I am afraid I didn't get any books this year.

It was a rather big surprise for me, as most of my presents usually end up being books. Last year I received 22 books overall.

Oh well...maybe next year.

Well, my gift card is now history, along with about twenty additional dollars of my x-mas loot. I picked up the following:

Digital Fortress by Dan Brown
Small Town by Lawrence Block
Reversible Errors by Scott Turow
Pale Horse Coming, Master Sniper, and Tapestry of Spies by Stephen Hunter
Wings of Fire by Dale Brown

alas, no books for me this year, but my b-day is tomorrow, so there is hope still! my older son (14) bought our younger one (11) a hardcover edition of Sherlock Holmes stories, complete with beautiful watercolor illustrations (and a nice magnifying glass as a companion gift), and the Marvel hardcover Justice League Handbook.

both boys got $50 gift cards to Books-A-Million from my folks as well.

I got the Dark Tower 5 and $75 in gift cards at B&N. I'm thinking of getting: Count of Monte Cristo (Robin Buss translation), House of Leaves by Danielewski, and Little, Big by John Crowley to start with.

Beaver - nice picks. Little Big is probably my favourite book, and House of Leaves is right up there...

Good to hear! I'll have to try to make it there soon. Both those books were pretty expensive. $16 and $20 for trade paperbacks, but it's free money.

I just realized it - I can't remember the last Christmas that I didn't receive any books.

But my dad did receive Ludlum and Clancy's latest novels.

I got the 2 first Horatio Hornblower books,Midshipmen and Lieutenant. Also a B&N gift card that is going to be turned into a few of their own printed classics they've got out now. They've got some nice editions at some very cheap prices.
