I just got "Wolves of the Calla"
 

I plan on starting my newly arrived "Wolves of the Calla" this weekend - anyone else order from Grant press? It's hefty - it's gonna take awhile, but I can't wait.

Did Grant send 'em out before retail get's 'em? Amazon's saying it's a November release. Anyway, I've been waffling on this one... how are the illustrations? I love Wrightson's old stuff from the 70s and earlier, but I definitely didn't dig his 90s work.

To tell you the truth, I haven't even opened it up yet - it's shrinkwrapped. Once I start reading and get to an illustration, I'll post opinions. I don't like looking ahead, as tempting as that is.

Yeah, I ordered from Donald Grant, and they apparently shipped them a little early.

Cool. Yeah, I just saw a few of the images on an eBay auction... they're kind of a mix... they're better than I expected, but nothing like Cycle of the Werewolf work, or my favorite, the Frankenstein or Swamp Thing work.

Anyway, the important thing here is the Stephen King work... sorry for going off topic. ;)

Who has the best price on "Wolves of Calla"?
 

Thinking of buying the book and was wondering who had the best price.

I'm going to wait until after it's released and hits the bestseller lists. Hopefully Amazon will have it for 40% off.

Oh, that "Frankenstein" book was just ****ing gorgeous. It's really a shame that it's out of print.

Geofferson, I'm down for that. I just called Borders, and they said they would 'probably' sell this at 30% off. Well, Amazon has it at that right now, and if it goes to 40% by the time it ships, they should adjust the price, from what I've heard, so why go with Borders, plus, Amazon doesn't charge tax.

If you can wait, most of King's recent hardcovers have been hitting the bargain racks ($6-$7) within a couple of months.

Someplace like Sam's Club would probably have it cheap as well.

Yeah... hey, if you see a first edition Grant Wizard and Glass on the bargain racks, I'll reimburse you for it if you grab it for me. ;)

Viking = bargain racks within 2 months of publication
Grant = bargain racks never

Except this time the trade hardcover of Wolves of the Calla is equivilent to a Viking hardcover or in this case, Scribner. But, these books never hit the bargain racks in only a couple of months. I'm seeing Hearts in Atlantis right now for $6.00 but Everything's Eventual, Black House and From a Buick 8 haven't made it there yet and those have been out for a year or so.

The better buy for Calla is the Artist Edition from Grant for only $55. shipped. It'll have smythe-sewn binding compared to the inferior glued binding of the Scribner edition. Only 3500 copies so ya better hurry!

Ahhh, okay, did some snoopin' around. So the Artist Edition is on the level of the previous hardcover 1sts, okay... and you get Bernie's sig to boot? I just may have to spring for that.

Just ordered one, we'll see if I get lucky.

Shit, I picked up Black House 6 months ago for $5, saw Everythings Eventual as well. Unless you are talking about a version I don't know of.

Wow--I didn't realize the list price was $35--I wonder why. I just hope I can find a decent deal for this next week, either at B&N or Borders.

Hmm, not a bad read at all. I got the book 3 days before release. Don't know why amazon.co.jp sent it to me so soon.



Anyways, I've always felt that each DT book was better than the previous with Wizard and Glass being the best. I think though, that Wolves of Calla takes a step back and in terms of quality, it's probably comparable with Drawing of the Three. Which means, it's still a frikkin awesome read. It felt good to finally read the DT again.



I don't have any special points I'd like to bring up, though I'll discuss any that are brought up here.

That's interesting because me and my local DT nerds all feel that Drawing of the Three is the most exciting if not best of the series. I personally thing that Wastelands was the worst. Either way, I am really looking forward to this. Thanks for the review.
