I finished John Grisham's The Runaway Jury today and thought it was only so-so. Hopefully the movie will be better.

Next up, I'm not quite sure. I was planning on starting Chrichton's Timeline, but haven't heard many positive things about it, so thinking of skipping it entirely.

I just started reading:

Adam Johnson - Parasites Like Us -- absolutely amazing. He's on my list of best living American authors.

After spending too much time and effort trying to find them cheap enough on eBay or at the second hand bookstores around here, I finally got smart and searched for the texts of the Fu Manchu books by Sax Rohmer online. And voila!, they're out there.

I just finished Robert Friedman's Red Mafiya: How the Russian Mob Has Invaded America.

It was actually a rather interesting book. There was a lot of information, but at times it seemed a little disorganized, but not too bad.

I have no idea what I'm going to read next. So many books, so little time. I think I'm leaning towards some non-fiction. Perhaps I'll read a biography of Vaclav Havel or Primo Levi. Those have been staring at me from their shelf for quite a while.

Oooh, good novel! I can remember not being able to put it down and finishing around 4:00 a.m. many years ago!

Just finished Bill O'Reily's book Living With Herpes. I found it interesting. Probably agreed with him on much of it. I had a few gripes with his logic, but its an interesting read.

Just started "Devil in the White City". So far it's pretty good, love the historical accuracy of the writer, and it's about Chicago, so you know it's going to be good.

Also started Hubert Selby Jr.'s The Room, a pretty neurotic read so far.

Finished Mr. Midshipman Hornblower before starting on Dr. Fu Machu. It was pretty good, but it weren't no Moby Dick. ;)

Garfield

It's a hard read

Yikes! The relationship between Garfield and Jon is quite complex, let alone the power play between Garfield and Odie. Then throw in the balance shattering love triangle with the introduction of Pooky, and it all just get's far too complicated for me. It's books like this that drive me to more simple fare, like Crime and Punishment. :)

Just in time for Samhain, the next couple of books I'm going to read are "Five of Cups" by Caitlin R. Kiernan (limited edition of her first, unpublished novel) and "Shadows Over Baker Street," an anthology of Lovecraft-tinged Sherlock Holmes short stories. How cool does "Shadows Over Baker Street" sound? It even has a Neil Gaiman story in there!

I'm going through my Motion Picture stage now.

I'm also reading Mystic River (looks like it will be a sad story, first 40 pages and what happens to Dave makes my heart break). After that I will read Deception Point by Dan Brown.

I finished <u>Snow Crash</u> by Neal Stephenson. It was a fun book with lots of interesting ideas.

I'm starting <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/4770019572/qid=1067225745/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/104-9535901-6115132?v=glance&n=507846"><u>Musashi</u></a> by Eiji Yoshikawa. Looks pretty interesting and I've heard lots of good things about it.

Currently reading <A HREF="http://www.io.com/~lawrence/wolfe.html" target="_Blank">Gene Wolfe's</a> "In <A HREF="http://www.sfsite.com/11a/gj92.htm" target="_blank">Green</a>'s Jungles", the second volume of his Book of the Short Sun.

Definitely have to pay attention here: Wolfe writes in a way that does not lend itself to skimming!
