Franken's boook so far...

Well, the book is out and I picked it up today. (Who knows, if by some grace of god Fox wins, my cover might be a collector's item!)

I posted this in Other becuase there was all this talk about his 'fake letter' he sent. And supposedly lied about. Guess what? From the book...

"Although I received a few polite regrets, no one had an abstinance story to share with the readers of Savin' It! Also, I got in trouble for using Harvard letterhead."

No lies, no big cover-up...he fesses up right in the book to what he did. Wonder if Coulter will do the same in her next book? And for supporters of Coulter, you might want to read the first few chapters to see how poor all her reference work it is...it's pretty damning.

EDIT: I got a bit carried away on the ooo's

4 people had the book in hand at Borders whiel I was in line...

So you'll criticize something you haven't even read? Amazing...not surprising, though.

I don't think he was criticizing the book, but rather commenting on the barren wasteland that is the Book Forum. But what do I know?

That's how I read it too: he was saying that this was posted to the wrong forum, but it's a forum nobody reads so it will die. Nothing about the book itself.

yeah, I don't that was a criticism. You're not really supposed to post something in a forum because it'll get more attention if it belongs somewhere else. If you want this to stay in Other then you should probably ask to have the title changed to something about the "fake letter" issue instead of about buying the book. Otherwise, the thread appears to be about the book itself instead of a discussion on an issue that is mentioned in the book but has implications outside of the book.

I was just playing around, trying to get the book forum some love.

Okay, I'm going to admit this now: I don't get the train thing. I think in my old age my sense of humor is fading?

I don't get the train pictures either, but I think Nazgul was just making a joke about the Book Forum rather than attacking Franken's book. Just MHO.

I'll take this one. FS posts a train pic when a poster seems to have a one-track mind about replies and I thought it would be funny to give him a dose of the train pic for bringing up the Ann Coulter remark, you know the whole Lib v. Conservative merry-go-round.

Nothing malicious intended, just something I thought was funny.

Hmm. Since trains run on two tracks, wouldn't it be more appropriate to post pictures of MONORAILS?

Both are single tracks, but the monorail has a single rail, as opposed to two. But yeah, that would be funnier.

You know, I didn't even know Al Franken had a new book coming out until Fox News threw their little tantrum.

Way to push his book, guys!

Picked up my copy today. The girl at the counter was asking me who he was, since all she knew was that a lot of people were buying his book. :-)

I just described him as a left-wing entertainer that wrote an opinion book, with opinions that are usually backed up with facts. I told her the main difference between him and people from the right like O'Reilly, Coulter, Savage and Limbaugh is that he doesn't profess to be a factual news source, and he's a hell of a lot funnier.

I picked it up at Borders last night on the way home from work. I'm about 100 pages in so far and it's funny and interesting. He's certainly pointed out a lot of inaccuracies and outright made up "facts" in Coulter's books and pretty much proved that Bill O'Reilly's main concern is self-promotion. O'Reilly lies, then denies he lied, then says it was a mistake, then denies ever admitting the mistake and finally says that the whole incident was made up to attack him. He seems very insecure with himself.

And Sean Hannity is basically the devil incarnate.

I can see why Fox News sued, there's a lot of damning evidence in there. The transcripts of their shows prove that their main method of political debate is to shut up and cut off the mic of anyone who disagrees with them. The one where Hannity was talking with a man whose father died in the WTC yet he was against the war in Iraq, in particular stands out.

Fans of Limbaugh, Coulter, and FNC will undoubtedly call the book an attack job, but it really hasn't been. There's jokes made at the expense of those people, but it never comes across as malicious (like Coulter's books do). Hell, even some Conservatives think she's nuts.

Finally, it seems incredibly well-researched, especially for a political satire book.

I've just started it, but so far its great. Coulter's book was funnier, but the sad part is it wasn't intended to be. Franken is trying to be funny and succeeds. Not to mention his satire book seems a lot better researched and a heck of a lot more factual than the more serious political books on the market.

I really enjoyed Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Liar and its nice to see him return to that style of book again.
