I just finished Bringing Down the House -- the story of the MIT student who took Vegas for millions. I really enjoyed it.

I started summer school and my required reading includes: Joy Luck Club, The Color Purple, and a book by Gloria Steinem -- the name escapes me.

When I'm done with summer school, I may read The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Did he work with a bunch of other students?

If it's the same guy, Playboy had a fantastic article on him last year.

Yes, I do read the articles. :)

I actually forgot the "s" -- it was supposed to be "students" -- however the book mostly focuses on one guy -- "Kevin Lewis" which is an alias.

But yes.. it's probably the same guy. Good book. I've heard they plan on making a movie about it.

Finished Resurrection Men, by Ian Rankin, an Inspector Rebus novel.

Great stuff. I highly recommend Ian Rankin's Rebus books. Especially if you like Police Procedurals.

Next up. Naked Prey, by John Sanford

He was also interviewed on TechTV the week the book was released. If I'm remember right, the guy who wrote the book actually had very little to do with the actual ring of MIT students.

He did mention that at all times MIT students are either organized to do this or in Vegas doing it. It isn't a new thing and it isn't something that is going to end. It is sort of one of their secret societies where you can be invited into the fold if they want you.

Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson

One of those books that I've had for five years, have started reading it and have only gotten through the first two pages at least five times. I've only heard good things about it, but it's not grabbing me yet. However, I'm going to finish it this time!

TheOne 06-12-03 09:48 PM

Got a whole stack of books to read.

Just finished Valhalla by Clive Cussler.

Going to start on Shock by Robin Cook.

gr8fuldave 06-16-03 07:42 AM

This June, since my wife picked up the "The Family" by Puzo for me as a surprise, I've also read The Godfather again, The Sicilian, The Last Don, and Omerta. Out of all of Puzo's books, I still read "The Godfather" at least once a year, its one of my faves ever.

Braddok 06-16-03 06:44 PM

I just finished Smoke & Mirrors (an x-men novel).

Right now I'm bouncing back and forth between The Untold Tales Of Spiderman and Raiders Forever. Both are short story books. I don't wanna start anything big till I'm done with book 5.

Jadow 06-16-03 07:29 PM

I am reading one of Patricia Cornwells serial killer books. Seems ok so far, but I can't remember the title at the moment!

I've read all of those and they are great choices. Kitchen Confidential is really a cool book to read. I would also suggest Fast Food Nation.

mikehunt 06-17-03 08:59 PM

it might take a while, but it's good
then there's Green Mars and Blue Mars after it
been a while since I read it so I can't remember if it took a while to get into it or not

Yep, read Fast Food Nation, and it was disturbingly excellent.

I finished American Gods by Neil Gaiman last night and I was pretty blown away. I had heard much about AG and I'm really happy I finally got around to read it. That was one helluva good book.

Now I'm reading The Red Church by Scott Nicholson. Pretty good so far.

Finally finished The Red Church. It started off strong, but then I found myself plowing through the last 100 pages or so. Kind of a let down. Maybe part of it is American Gods was so damn_good, it magnified the mediocrity of Church.

I've moved onto Carl Hiaasen's Basket Case. Already about 1/2 through (started this one yesterday) and it's not bad. I've enjoyed Hiassen's other work more, but it's a nice change of pace nonetheless.

I just finished reading:

The Arraignment
by Steve Martini

The story was enjoyable as I am into legal thrillers.
