Donating books to the library

I have a lot of computer books that are outdated and probably difficult to sell, but might be good for a library. If you donate books to a library, can you write it off and if so, for how much(%)
thanks.

I have written it off for the past 5 years.

As for %, you'd have to ask my accountant. I have no idea.

The IRS publication titled "Determining the Value of Donated Property" can be found here:

Typically, you can write off fair market value. Realistically, that's not much for old computer books...but you can claim something.

You might also consider donating books to a local school. Many schools have programs for "slow" readers in which they expose them to many different types of books...

Many schools don't have the funding to order as many books as they would like, especially for classroom libraries (as opposed to the school-wide media center).
