Language history books

I'm looking for a book that talks about the history of Languages and the relationship of them to each other -- basically a linguistic history book I guess...

More specifically I'd be interested in a book that dealt with a history and evolution of the English language.

Thanks.

I've not yet looked on the relevant shelf to see if I have anything that anywhere near fits the bill but there is a (very) concise history/chronology here: http://www.wordorigins.org/histeng.htm

Cool.. thanks -- That was a good start. I did find one book on Amazon that sounded interesting. I might pick it up.
