Damn, it's been a while since I've read a Laymon novel. I'm going through withdrawal. ;)

Samuel 03-26-03 10:29 PM

Just read The Cellar and am halfway through Beast House, already got Midnight Tour waiting for me.

cineman 03-27-03 04:49 PM

The Cellar was really good. Let us know how Beast House is. I haven't read it yet. I guess I should finish the trilogy (or quadrilogy, if you count Friday Night at Beast House).

Samuel 03-27-03 08:04 PM

So far it's just as good as The Cellar. It's filled with a lot of new and interesting charachters, one tied in with the short lived Dan Jenson and
Spoiler:
where the beast came from
. I had no idea there was a 'Friday Night at Beast House' I hope I can locate a copy before I finish 'The Midnight Tour'.

cineman 03-29-03 01:22 AM

Cemetery Dance published the only edition of 'Friday Night at Beast House'. They should still have copies ($35).

Copies also pop up on Ebay all the time.

Alien Redrum 03-29-03 02:34 AM

I really want to read The Cellar and The Beast House. I've only read The Midnight Tour, which was simply amazing.

Geofferson 04-06-03 09:22 PM

Just as a heads-up, Laymon's Darkness, Tell Us is now available in the U.S. for the first time ever in paper back this month!

Went to B&N on Saturday and there must have been 12 copies of it!

Alien Redrum 04-07-03 02:20 PM

Thanks for the heads-up!

Hey, you didn't buy all 12 copies to sell them on ebay did you? ;)
:p

Samuel 04-07-03 04:37 PM

Buy.com has it for $5.52 shipped:

I forgot that was coming out! Thanks!

July '03 - No Sanctuary - First U.S. paperback printing

Sept. '03 - To Wake the Dead - 1st U.S. Hardback version of Amara, published in the UK. Manuscript is uncut (supposedly the Amara version might have unconfirmed cuts in it).

jdpatri 04-09-03 03:58 PM

Just ordered my first Laymon book - The Travelling Vampire Show. After reading through this thread, I'm anxious to see what he's all about.

cineman 04-10-03 05:30 PM

jdpatri

That's one of his best. A great book to start with.

Samuel 04-21-03 03:08 PM

For the past month I've read nothing but Laymon, I have so many other books but after finishing a book of his I'm always wanting more, and thankfully there are still amny I have yet to read.

Anyway I just finished "Island", loved it, I couldn't beleive the ending. I just started "Bite"

Happy reading. . .

cineman 04-22-03 02:16 PM

I just finished his teen horror novel written under Carl Laymon, "Nightmare Lake", in one sitting. Not bad for a teen book.

Just started "Darkness, Tell Us". Very promising.

I, too, loved "Island".

cineman 04-27-03 12:59 PM

Wow! "Darkness, Tell Us" was damn good. This book was more character driven than others, but it has two climaxes!!!

I got ahold of a copy of "Amara" and started it immediately after finishing "Darkness...". Can't get enough Laymon.

I'm starting "Darkness, Tell Us "Today. I just finished "In The Dark" For those that haven't read it, put it on your list. It is awesome!

Geofferson 04-28-03 11:53 AM

Damn, I am dying to read another Laymon novel - too many others to get out of the way.

However once I do, I plan on having a Laymon reading marathon (I bet my mind will be twisted when I finish that :D )

Geofferson 04-30-03 01:57 PM

Could someone post Laymon's books that are in his "Beast House" series? I believe there are 4 of them, but am not sure what order they are in.

cineman 04-30-03 03:31 PM

Beast House Series in order:

The Cellar
The Beast House
Midnight Tour
Friday Night at Beast House

Samuel 05-01-03 10:31 PM

Well I just finished "In The Dark"

Laymon never ceases to amaze me. Anyway my Laymon library has run dry for now, I hope I'm able to read something by another author though after reading 12 Laymon's in a row.

Interesting note about the Beast House is that "Friday Night At Beast House" was published after "Midnight Tour" but actually takes place shortly before it. It's hard to tell how much before but it could be like a few years or a few days.

Also, there are some Laymon books available from Amazon.ca.

The selection is not as good as the UK site but there are a few that aren't available in the states,

I just finished Amara late last night. It was a ripping good read. Gory and sleazy.

It is one of his manuscripts from the early 90's that was rejected. He talks about his rejected and unpublished works in A Writer's Tale.

The action is non-stop, as five stories are told simultaneously. I was wondering how these stories would fit together, but they finally do.

It will be published in the U.S. in September under the title To Wake the Dead.

Alien Redrum 05-06-03 02:04 AM

Well, I just won a copy of The Cellar tonight on ebay. Under 7 bucks too. :D

I will be plowing into it as soon as I get it in.

travlr 05-07-03 09:02 PM

I just bought and finished the Travelling Vampire Show today. Great read. I just happened to see it while browsing Borders today and picked it. This was my first but for sure not my last Laymon bool. I will be going out tomorrow to pick up some of the other books that have been suggested.

What a great book to be your first. Glad you liked it. You'll love his other books.
