Invisible Art - The Legends of Movie Matte Painting
Hi,
My first post in the book section.
A new book fresh to the bookstore is amazing. It's called The Invisible Art - The Legends of Movie Matte Painting by Mark Cotta Vaz and Craig Barron - Chronicle Books.
If you like art and if you like movies - this is a book to check out. It explores the key artists that have been involved in creating movie art/backgrounds through the years. The authors are involved in the business and have worked for Industrial Light and Magic and the like. But they really have an appreciation for the artists that came before them.
The artwork is amazing and they show how the shots are captured and seemlessly put in the final film negative. Quite amazing pictures. You see a studio stage and with a few actors on it and the artwork transforms the film and what the audience sees to now being a grand imperial ballroom. They show some very famous scenes and others that are just neat. Remember the last scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark when they show that giant room with all the crates in it?
It is an expensive book which also comes with a cd-rom which compliments the book. If you don't have the cash, it is worth grabbing a coffee at your local bookstore and spending an hour with it.
If you are really into movies and art ... this is a no-brainer addition to your collection.
Hope this helps.
