I would tell you, but I am bummed that the KING OF BUFFETS did not respond to my thread.

Actually, I have no idea, but I still hoped to get your "Professional" opinion in the buffet thread.

I read through it and was about to respond but I knew I would get chastised. But for you, I will endure.

I go to respond....

BTW, if you are already a book club member, they will have any offers geared for you coded to your account.
So a quick call to CS will answer your questions...
If you are a new member, the best I could find through Google was 6 books for a buck plus S/H.

It would still be geared to your account...so just call CS and say "I'm a sexy beast and you want me back!".

I heard we have a Book Forum here. Not sure if people post in it or anything, but I'll go ahead and move this thread there... maybe it'll draw someone out of hiding.

I got a mail offer yesterday as well and by the misspelling of my last name, they could only have gotten my address through Columbia House.

Anyway the code for 5 free bokks + an extra free book or "White curve radio" is CR008 and the web address is http://www.JoinSFBC.com

If you're given the choice, skip the radio and get an extra book. I know this seems obvious... but I just wanted to stress that the radio is a piece of sh|t. You'll be much happier with Shadow Puppets or a Babylon 5 book.

Yeah, they are a good deal if you like to read. I can pick up 6 Star Trek books for about $10 (usually 3-in-1 books, etc. that are exclusive to the club) and all I have to do is buy 2 more that are still cheaper than most book stores.

I think I might have to pass right now, with 6 books on the way from Amazon and another $90 in gift certificates, I won't need any books for another month or so. and then I will be just trying to find something new to read...

I think QPB's a much better deal. No commitment after membership! They have some science fiction.

I've done that too, but for some reason I really prefer a hardback in my hands. I think the code mentioned for SFBC doesn't require you to buy anymore. I may be wrong, but that is what it seemed like.

Yeah, well they're owned by one company, booksonline.com, so they're almost exactly the same. I tried to look up the membership agreement for the SFBC and this is what I got:

"Begin by selecting your 0 books for $.0 . You will be billed (including $0.0 shipping and handling) when your membership has been approved. Plus, with this special membership, there's no commitment to buy any books!
...
Reduce your Commitment NOW

Select an additional book now for just $0.0 (plus shipping and handling), and reduce your commitment to only -1 more books over the next 0 years!"

I have no idea what that means.

I dunno. I just got a refer-a-friend mailing that states this:

New Member: Choose 4 books for $1 each with membership. There's no obligation to buy another book. Please enroll me as a member of QPBC and send me the 4 books I've indicated below. Bill me $1 each, plus shipping and handling. I understand that I am not required to buy another book and that I may cancel at any time. You'll send me the QPB Review for at least 6 months.

I suppose there's a code for this, but all I have is this mailing. I'll send you one if you want.

-Aaron
