Coming of age stories?
I am looking for some good coming of age stories/stories about teenage angst. I really would enjoy some good summer reading, since I am usely up late at night with nothing better to do after I get off work. I really liked Catcher in the Rye so if some of you could recommend some stuff along those lines it would be much appreciated, thanks for the help.

One good coming of age book I remember from my teenaged years is called, strangely enough, A Coming of Age. Science Fiction, by Timothy Zahn. Still out of print, I see, but Amazon has used copies starting at 95 cents and Half at 75 cents.

There is some book called, "The Many Perks of Being a Wallflower," but I can't remember who wrote it because I haven't read it yet! Haha, but its supposed to be a story about some high school student searching for himself.
Some girl (that I really don't like) suggested I read it, and she thinks that she is some literature guru. Don't blame me if it sucks though.

This is an old staple: "A&P" by John Updike.
It's in his story collection "Pigeon Feathers."

It was a better-than-average coming of age story. Quite casually written and little more current that "Catcher in the Rye", I would recommend it.
I would also suggest Burger Wuss - M. T. Anderson. It's a very quick read, tons of angst there.

Gotta weigh in with some Steve-
The "short" stories "The Body" and "Apt Pupil" from "Different Seasons" ("The Body, IMO, being the much better of the two) - Stephen King
"It" - Stephen King

Simmons
Well the 'Hyperion' thread jogged my memory. How about 'Summer of Night' by Dan Simmons. It's similar to the McCammon book (but nowhere near as good) i.e. teenage/supernatural. Actually this could be a whole new/different thread now that I think about it.....

The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner.
Excellent novel with great characters and situations concerning bildungsroman.
It is my favorite novel and I can read it anytime. Faulkner's style is so original and inventive. The chapter on Quentin (#1, the son) consists of a stream of consciousness and mostly has no punctuation at all.
His transformation from farm boy to Harvard student to (*read novel*) is so heartbreaking and exciting at the same time.
