Should I buy the Dark Tower Hardcover set NOW?
 

I am wanting all the Dark Tower Books in Hardcover so I can read them again
before the 5th and 6th books come out. I was going to buy the 3 book set from
Grant Publishing but....

should I wait because they may come out with a 4 book set or something nicer
when the 5th and 6th books are released? Does anyone know Grant's history with
sets like this? I would hate to buy the 3 book set and then a year later find out
there is a 6 book set with an awesome box or something.

Any info would be appreciated

Do you have the fourth book in hardcover? That one's currently OOP, so if you buy the three book set, you'll still probably want to get "Wizard and Glass." I've seen it going for over $100 on Ebay.

As to whether or not Grant will keep on reprinting the books, I don't know. "Gunslinger" is currently in its third printing, so it's possible.

I would certainly pick-up the The Hardcover Gift Pack Collection now - while you still can. I felt the same as you and wanted all of the DT books in hardcover about one year ago. As Josh has stated, it will be much harder (and more expensive) to find a copy of Volume IV: Wizard and Glass.

I actually purchased mine one year ago for $120.00 from a Grant Publishing employee. They are indeed long OOP and were limited issue in hardcover in the first place.

One other piece of news I was able to gather from Grant Publishing. It is possible that there may be another "hardcover gift set" issued once all of the remaining books in the series have been published. In other words, the set would probably include volumes IV through VII.

I wasn't taking any chances (or waiting) so I found my copy of W&G and went for it. Good luck!

Are these hardcovers "shelf" copies or actual "reading" copies?

Depends on your personal perspective. :)

I love the look and feel (touch) of hardcovers, but I find them exceedingly difficult to read in certain posititions ....

Have anyone bought a Donald M. Grant Publisher (Stephen King Book)?
 

I have been scourging over the Donald M. Grant Publisher Inc website. And alot of the Stephen King books, at the least the ones that are not sold out and fetching a fortune on ebay seems really enticing.

Currently i have been drooling over the The Talisman/Black House Gift set for $150. Peter Straub and Rick Berry have signed the 3500 copy edition of The Talisman which is available only in the Talisman/Black House Gift Set.

I have most of Stephen King's in hardcover in new condition. I never been into the must have the first editions of his books. I just love to read his work and have them in hardcover. But i have bought the Dark Tower Grant gift set of I-III 5 years ago, at a time when it was the cheapest way to gain his DT in hardcover format. And now i am deciding on the Talsman/Black House gift set. Is this worthy of a purchase or is the price too steep and more of a collector's item that should be locked up and never touched?

That is nice looking if you want Black House. I used to collect King limiteds and had the original Talisman 2 vol edition from Grant. Personally, I think it's too steep. I thought Black House was almost unreadable. Go for the original Talisman 2 vol set if you can find it. I doubt the unsigned is more than this edition out on the secondary market.

I bought a Donald M. Grant Conan book in the 1980s. It has premium paper, premium binding, and lovely color pictures. Very collectible, but of good enough quality to read over and over without lessening the condition. We're not talking comics or baseball cards here.

I've got the set (and have a complete set of the Grant editions actually) and I got to talk to the Grant when I was a Barnes and Noble customer order supervisor a few years ago. I got about five of these sets for employees at our store and we got our 40% employee discount for Christmas on it as well. :) BTW, the gift set has a first edition of part three in there and The Gunslinger version in the set has art not in the first two editions they released. I've also got an extra copy of Wizard and Glass if someone's still looking for it to complete their collection.

Actually Linn I've been trying to purchase (Grant) Wizard And Glass for a long time. I have I-III and V-VII. Been putting off buying IV for it's obvious steep price. But who knows, maybe we can work something out.
