City of Bones goes on sale today!
I know there are some Michael Connelly fans on this site and I just wanted to remind everyone that his new Harry Bosch novel City of Bones goes on sale today.
I have read it and it is his best Bosch book since The Last Coyote, imho. Plus, there's a shocking ending you won't believe!
Any fan of mystery, detective, or procedurals should love this book.
Post your thoughts on the book here.

Thanks again for going that extra step BoatDrinks!

If you are still reading this thread...
I finished the book tonight (well actually, I have about 5 pages to go which I'll read on the way home).
Once again Connelly came through with a fantastic novel.
Unlike other authors (re: Cornwell, Koontz), his style stays fresh and his books are consistently entertaining.
Although the ending seems to be kind of a let down (lots of buildup, payoff to be desired), the book as a whole was great.
I only hated one part:
Now patiently waiting for the next one....

If you do find out more, I am interested. It kind of seems like we are the only 2 Connelly fans on the board. If that's the case, it's a damn_shame.
Now to reply to the next.

Steve,
You should try and make it to a signing. MC will be in Virginia and NC in April.
Here's his schedule.

I checked the list of signings and he's going to be down my way on the 24th, but alas I work nights and we are in the middle of a W2K rollout.
I missed him by one night last year (he was signing in the bookstore under my building and I got my dates screwed up).

Ok, you guys have me intrigued about this author. I am not going to go buy a new hardcover, so I'll have to wait for this one to come out in paperback (no decent library for me here).
So, of his previous books available in paperback, which would you suggest I pick up this week?

It has his first three books (The Black Echo, Black Ice and Concrete Blond) in one hardback at a very reasonable price.
If you don't want to wait, check your local Barnes & Nobel or Borders. I've seen it at both places for around $10.
If you don't want to go that route, start with The Black Echo . IIRC, that's the first Harry Bosch novel and a good place to start to get to know his character. He developes as the novels progress.
Also check out www.michaelconnelly.com .
I hope you become a believer.

I second everything the guy with the lousy user name ( ) said.
That Bosch Trilogy thing is even available at the library. At least it is in Arizona and LA.

Another Connelly fan
Hey guys, you're not the only 2 fans. It came out last week in the UK. My opinion overall is that it was poor. The ending wasn't shocking - just a logical progression (of sorts). Furthermore I'd go so far as to say that there hasn't been a good 'Bosch' book since 'Trunk Music'. But then I can't write - only criticise.

Bean-si, what did you not like about it? Plot? Characters?
As far as the ending not being shocking, I disagree.

Bones ?
Alien R.
As there are spoilers...
I didn't say I saw it coming but practically all of the Bosch books have been his constant battles against the hierarchy. And it's wearying. On the character and the reader. Knowing there was going to be a 'shocking ending', maybe I was over sensitive and the references to the paid-up pension were clear indications to me of an exit. As crime fiction is a form of 'exaggerated reality' - always wanted to use that term - then the exit of the Brasher character was badly handled. An earlier post mentions the imposition of '911' reality - it just didn't gel. Which is a pity cause the first 100 or so pages were excellent. But then that's my opinion - what do I know
