Recommendation repercussions

Have you ever been sorry that you recommended a book to someone, for whatever reason.

One of my personal favorites Sometimes a Great Notion I've recommended to a few friends. All of them were really bent by what happened in the book, saying it was too sad and that it was mean of me to recommend. This was awhile back but I continue to get sh@t from them, especially if they get together.

I have often recommended Philip K Dick's "The <A HREF="http://www.philipkdick.com/articles/TMitHC.htm" target="_blank">Man</a> in the <A HREF="http://www.infinityplus.co.uk/nonfiction/highcastle.htm" target="+blank">High</a> <A HREF="http://www.philipkdick.com/tmithc.htm" target="_blank">Castle</a>" (even loaning out one of my copies on a number of occasions) only to find more often than not that it was <i>not read all the way through</i> by the recommendee....!

Too heavy going apparently; although I could never see why.

It seems like everyone that I recommended Sula to didn't like it. My sister didn't like The Shipping News as much as I did either.
