Raymond E Fiest, anyone read?

Just wondering if anyone else around here has read any of his books. I've read them all. They're great.

He's definitely one of my favorite fantasy authors. I think his most recent series (Riftwar Legacy) has been very subpar, which is partially understandable since 2 of the 3 were novelizations of computer games. Hopefully the Conclave of Shadows saga will be back up to snuff.

He's releasing another series? That's awesome. Yeah I've been reading his new triology, but do not have the last one... it's not nearly as great at the first one though...

Yeah, Betrayal and Assassins were both pretty half-assed. I don't feel he let the Serpentwar end very well with "Shards of a Broken Crown" -- I think there could have been a better connection with the ending of "Rage of a Demon King" than he put together. Seemed very half-hearted/absent minded almost.

At any rate, I'm ready for another series that doesn't go into all the crap about different gods being here and there and wherever and whoever Macros is in reality. That part got old really fast.

I still haven't read the Empire trilogy yet though.

Get on it, man! Totally different feel, but the political intrigue is really interesting.

I wouldn't get on it... I read the first book and totally hated it. I put it aside and have never returned.

I'm reading through it for the second time... but I do agree, it's not as good. The first time I started reading it, I sort of skipped a few hundred pages to get to the end I think...

Loved Magician and the three books written "from the other side" (forgot their names now, the ones with Mara).

He doesnt suffer as much from Walking Syndrome* as many other fantasy writers

* Walking Syndrome = all they do is walk walk walk for 800 pages, then a nice fight to end it off. Robert Jordan is stricken badly and needs professional help.

That's was the empire triology, mentioned above... Daughter, Servant, and Mistress of the Empire...
