I loved the Neil Gaiman stories from Sandman. How is his new book?

I'm wondering the same thing.

I really enjoyed it. I was a little uncertain as to whether I'd like it for the first 40 or so pages, but once after that I was hooked, and read the rest of it in a couple of days.

I probably wouldn't have gone out of my way to read if it was written by some other author - it falls dangerosuly close to the territory inhabited by the likes of Stephen King, of whom I am not a fan.

I am currently on page 290 of 461.

I am really enjoying it. I was hooked from the beginning and didn't want to put it down this morning when I got to work.

I have auctioned off the next reading privledge with my mother and brother.

My mother offered home cooked meal of choice
Brother offered 6-10 books from his reading library.

choices choices...

LOVED IT. I got an advanced copy a few months ago and ripped through it in a few days. I really don't compare it at all to Stephen King, like many people have. It is very much a Neil Gaiman novel. A little humor, a little horror, a lot of mythology, and a lot of "I can't believe I didn't figure that out earlier!" moments.

Even if you're not a big Neil Gaiman fan, I recommend it.

Just received my copy today. Hope to read it soon!

AMERICAN GODS by Neil Gaimen

Anybody read this book or heard anything about it??

i read it and loved it. i've been a big Gaiman fan for about 10 years, and i tend to enjoy just about anything he does. it's not my favorite thing of his (i tend to prefer his short stories about all else), but it's defintely worth a read.

I'm currently in the middle of AMERICAN GODS. It's not bad, but I MUCH prefer Gaiman's work on SANDMAN to any prose he's written (with the possible exception of the short story "Murder Mysterie").

So far, I've found the "modern" gods (TV, technology) to be a little too prescious, and veering into typical fantasy territory. The book would've been stronger had it only dealt with the old gods.

but then the book would be utterly pointless. it's about the old gods vs. the gods of the new world, the American Gods from which the novel gets its name.
