Ok so it's a short story. Nevertheless, I thought it was very good, and I have decided to write my next english essay on it. Does anyone have any insight or interesting thoughts on this story?

I read it in 10th grade. Great stuff. If you want to, you could show some of the things that have been inspired by it: Jacob's Ladder, Sixth Sense, Brazil, among others.

Wasn't there a great Twilight Zone episode or short film based on this too?

The 1962 French short film (I think)won an Academy Award in '63 and Serling played it on the Twilight Zone in '64. In region 4 this episode is on The Treasures of The Twilight Zone dvd. Great episode, great story, and yep it was the inspiration for Jacobs Ladder (not too hard to see why). Sorry, never read the story, though. Can anyone tell me how the story compares with the filmed version? Good luck with the essay, sebastianv50

Believe it or not, this story plays a small part in From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter.

Haven't read the short story, but have seen the Twilight Zone episode. Damn that lady's smile freaked me out!

...maybe I'll read it now.

Funny thing, I just wrote an essay on this story for my sophomore level lit class. We had to write a formalist take on a short story. I believe my title was "The Imagery of a Divergent Reality." I essentially wrote about the clues that foreshadow the outcome.
