Re: Kino Lorber Winter Wonderland sale (good till Dec. 19th, 2022)
In this world of uncertainty, one thing I can count on is that every 3 months, like clockwork, Kino will have a sale with more movies from my want list for less than $10 than I can afford.
For this sale, I pared it down to:
I am still hoping against hope that Indicator will announce a W. C. Fields at Universal Box set, so I am holding off getting the Kino W.C. Fields films- for now..
For this sale, I pared it down to:
- By Candlelight (1933)
- Edgar G. Ulmer Sci-Fi Collection
- Filibus (Silent)
- Film Noir: The Dark Side of Cinema IX
- House on 92nd Street (On WSL list)
- Murder at the Vanities (1934)
- Female on the Beach
- Prince of Foxes (On WSL list)
- Shoes (Silent)
- The Counterfeit Traitor (1962)
- The Delicious Little Devil (silent)
- The Intrigue (silent)
- The Strange Love of Martha Ivers
- The Turning Point (1952)

I am still hoping against hope that Indicator will announce a W. C. Fields at Universal Box set, so I am holding off getting the Kino W.C. Fields films- for now..

Wish other boutiques were as good with the discounts as Kino. Got a hefty batch in the September sale (29), and the June sale (19), and the March sale (11), so this one conveniently cleared off another chunk of the 'saved for later' stuff. Mostly upgrades with a few blind buys which will inevitably be flipped up here:

Road to Morocco (Special Edition) $8.49

Re: Kino Lorber Winter Wonderland sale (good till Dec. 19th, 2022)
Going back through my sale orders from years past, Kino's overall sale pricing hasn't changed much at all, so I'm not sure what this means. Granted, a title going for $7.49 or less in this sale might be $9.99 or 11.99 in the next one, and then back down to, say, $8.99 in a sale after that, then up to $13+ on a future sale. I find their methodology to be kinda random, to he honest. And there's never been a time when every title in any given sale was at its absolute lowest. I'm guessing they could do that, technically, which would be great. I suspect they get a lot of shoppers grabbing a bunch of low-priced titles, then adding in a couple of higher sale-priced items that they could easily get cheaper, later, just because why not.
This year, thanks to a rare income infusion, I decided to 'finish up' (as much as possible) my wishlists at a bunch of boutique Black Friday sales just so I can avoid having to cherry-pick future sales for the rest of my life and just get down to watching stuff. I put in fairly large BF orders at Kino, Mondo Macabro, Vinegar Syndrome, Epic Pictures, Oscilloscope, Flicker Alley, and MVD Shop, as well as a huge one at Shout's Halloween sale a while back, a large-ish one at Criterion's fall sale, and another at Severin's liquidation sale in August. Among all of them I find Kino's sales are more consistently best value for money, with nearly everything $8 - $10 or less sooner or later, and repeatedly. Very few of the others regularly have massive portions of their catalogs at $8 - $10 or less (which as you can see by my list above, is generally my limit, except for the two multi-film sets). Of the others, only MVD and Epic offered similar prices but, really, look what they're selling; lots of titles to pick from, but more blind-buy type stuff and not always a lot of keepers.

Re: Kino Lorber Winter Wonderland sale (good till Dec. 19th, 2022)
Kino offers some of the best obscure titles from around the world at prices you can rarely find elsewhere (other than perhaps imports at a much higher price) I used to shop Amazon Germany and UK a ton before shipping charges went up drastically. And with a good deal of patience and the loss of the urge to have it now, KL provides the perfect label to fit the bill. The pricing is indeed baffling on titles that repeat themselves across sales but is still modest and acceptable for that once or twice a year purchase. Hamiltonbooks is another outlet where you can find KL titles to fill in your collection gaps at acceptable prices although of late it’s been hit or miss

Mine showed up yesterday I think. I saw it on my front porch as I was leaving for work this morning. Never got a email with tracking or anything.
Regardless, I love Kino’s turnaround time. Other than Amazon, they’re the quickest shipper I make regular purchases from.

Toddarino, did you check your spam folder? I always received a shipment notice from Kino with a tracking number. They always use UPS for me, and I have also signed up for status updates there, which helps. Of course, you have to have a tracking ID to do that

Re: Kino Lorber Winter Wonderland sale (good till Dec. 19th, 2022)
Today's the last day of this sale. My resolve weakened as usual and I made a second order of more stuff on my wishlist.
Order 1
[Blu-ray] Man on the Flying Trapeze
[Blu-ray] Film
[Blu-ray] NOTFILM
[Blu-ray] You're Telling Me
[Blu-ray] Buster Keaton: The Shorts Collection 1917-1923
Order 2
[Blu-ray] The Day the Earth Caught Fire (Special Edition)
[Blu-ray] Dr. Phibes Double Feature [The Abominable Dr. Phibes/Dr. Phibes Rises Again]
[Blu-ray] The Laughing Policeman
[Blu-ray] Now and Forever
[Blu-ray] Adventures of Captain Marvel (12 Chapter Serial)
[Blu-ray] Tender Mercies (Special Edition)
I mentioned in my last post that the Keaton shorts set was a superset and upgrade of Kino's 2011 shorts collection, which I already had. That is true but I didn't realize that the two collections of extras are entirely different. I enjoy the extras on the first collection -- especially the "visual essays" -- so I'm going to keep both.

This was one the best sales and in these inflationary times, had to exercise a ton of restraint to keep the order total to a minimum. Got the Buster collection as well to complement the earlier collection. BTW, the Jewish Soul set is another splendid one and while it’s not mentioned, comes with a nice slip box as well.
