B&N - 50% off Criterion Sale
The annual Barnes & Noble Sale is now active.
Currently, as I make this post, the promo code 5SSME2 works on taking an additional 15% off one item in your cart. It can be used multiple times. Don't wait to use this as I'm sure it will be deactivated soon.

Thanks! Saved $5 more than I would have using my card in-store. I know the Wong Kar-Wai set has its issues, but the movies are new to me so I'm less likely to be overly fussed. As a rule I prefer original versions, but so it goes.

Re: B&N - 50% off Criterion Sale
I picked up using the 15% code and discounted gift cards:
World Of Wong Kar Wai
Defending Your Life
Memories of Murder
Irma Vep
Secrets & Lies
Pickup on South Street
Diabolique
I'll get Bringing Up Baby, Mirror, Deep Cover, and La piscine when they are released.

Due to peer pressure (yeah, that's the ticket!) I ended up using the code with:
Celine and Julie Go Boating
El Sur
Human Condition
Masculin feminine
Memories of Murder
Pickup on South Street
Secrets & Lies
Wim Wenders: Road Trilogy
World Of Wong Kar Wai
Y Tu Mamá También
And will also go in for Bringing up Baby and Mirror.

Thanks so much for the coupon. Worked on all items except "Bringing Up Baby" which is still a preorder but included in sales since it will be released during the sale.

Blood Simple is still full price, I thought every Criterion was included in the sale?

There's a Criterion release of Deep Cover coming out? I love that movie! Okay, I'm in!

I had Nightmare Alley in my cart at $20, and it jumped up to $40 before I could check out.
Luckily I was able to purchase the Wong Kar Wai set and Memories of Murder with the 50% discount plus the 15% off coupon before they started changing prices back to full retail.

Re: B&N - 50% off Criterion Sale
Just the Roberto Rossellini's War Trilogy/Bd set for me so far with an extra 15% off.
I would buy the Essential Fellini but it is only showing 20% off right now.
Lots of other CC boxsets are not showing the sale price yet or jumped back up to full retail like the World Of Wong Kar Wai set.
If I remember right B@N CC sales always are slow to include all Criterions on the first day of the sale
I guess the sale went live early. The sale officially starts tomorrow via post on that other movie site.

If I had to guess I'd say the 50%off today was a mistake (a happy mistake for some) because I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to start until tomorrow.

Re: B&N - 50% off Criterion Sale
It's been so long since I've done this. Is this going to work on pre-sale box sets like the Melvin Van Peebles set?

Re: B&N - 50% off Criterion Sale
If preorders are due to be released during the period of the sale they should be included in sale. If a preorder is due to be released after the sale is over, it will not be included in the sale. I would guess Criterions went back to normal price because B&N are "fixing" the sale to exclude coupons etc or maybe the sale wasn't due to start till tomorrow?
Amazon is matching many of the Criterion sale prices including Blood Simple. Shop there before they also raise the price back up.

Already over? Until tomorrow, that is? None of my selections are 50% off.

I am always slow on these things. I see this post, roll out of bed after a while, stroll downstairs, remember this thread exists, go to the sitez deal is gone, act bewildered. It's a rather beguiling trait.

Re: B&N - 50% off Criterion Sale
For the first time I saw, in small print, on the 50% off sign at Barnes and Noble that the discount can not be combined with the regular membership discount. We have known for a year or more that this is how it is now but this is the first time I saw it in writing. My membership expires next week and that is it for me. No more reason to have a membership.

I went out to lunch and dropped by a B&N Brick and Mortar and picked up a few. I got In the mood for love and Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
What killed me though was the ridiculous sales tax. 10.25% in Long Beach, CA, where this B&M was.
I may got Deep Cover and 1 or two more titles online.

Well shit. That's the only reason I re-upped for the B&N membership. That sucks. I would rather give Amazon my business in that case.

Re: B&N - 50% off Criterion Sale
Yeah that happened to me today. My BN membership expires today and I asked if it stacks the extra 10% and they said No. I last shopped for Criterions a year ago, so I guess it changed. I won't be re-upping.
