Re: B&N - 50% off Criterion Sale

I stopped in Barnes & Noble earlier today and had a stack of around $300 of Criterions in my arms but just as I was going to the register something went off in the back of my head so I put everything back except for House. It is a good thing I did, I opened House up in the car and the disc looked like Freddy Krueger and Edward Scissorhands tossed it back and forth like a frisbee. The cashier gave me my money back, thankfully.

I stopped in today after getting back from Guatemala just last night. I picked up the following:

Triangle of Sadness 4K
The Velvet Underground BD

The rest of them I'm interested in this go around are already on pre-order from Amazon
After Hours 4K (24.99)
One False Move 4K (24.99)
Moonage Daydream 4K (27.99)

Not an outrageously huge order, but…!

Rules of the Game (UHD)
Breathless (UHD)
Ranown Westerns (UHD)
Branded to Kill (UHD)

8 movies in 4K for $150…not too bad! I thought about Time Bandits but figured I was in deep enough already.

Re: B&N - 50% off Criterion Sale

We received our copy of After Hours 4k from Amazon yesterday and it was once again a fun watch. The transfer is likely the best we will see with this movie, and the many dark scenes looked as well as I believe that they could.

Not regarding Criterion sale. Check your emails if you are a premium member .Barnes and Noble just emailed a 10 dollars off almost any item coupon. They say it lasts until 10/31, but then say it is while supplies last. I already used it at BN.com, before they end it. I tried to use it on the 40 % off horror sale and it wouldn't work. But it worked on a less discounted blu ray. I got a free premium membership upgrade for one year on their website from the regular membership earlier this year.

Re: B&N - 50% off Criterion Sale

I've read both 11/3 and 11/6. It's traditionally the first Friday, but lots of employees are saying 11/6. I guess we'll find out soon.

I’m not seeing any change to the prices on the site, so maybe 11/6 is it…

All I'm doing so far is the new Jackie Chan set and a graphic novel for my collection. Probably pull the trigger this afternoon on that.

Last Picture Show for me (next week). Probably some others, but I haven't finished watching my stack from the last flash sale...

Re: B&N - 50% off Criterion Sale

Yup, just the JC and the book.

If I happen into a physical B&N before the sale ends, I might be tempted by a few things.

Picked up The Others today and MEANT to grab Freaks, but damn, man, that price. Not sure the rewatchability factor is worth it in this case ...

Where did all the love for The Others come from? I recall it got some buzz upon first release years ago but then it seemed to go underground.

For me, anyway, it was a slow grower, yeah. First time I saw it, I liked it all right, but somehow over the years it's become one of those creepy films to rewatch and introduce people to. Underrated, and with a great twist.

It made a shitload of money in theaters and then more on DVD. It was a thing. It was one of those "best films since Sixth Sense" type of flicks.

The Others is a slow burn, moodily effective thriller. Loved it in the theaters when it released and on every subsequent home viewing. Finally Amazon price went back to $25 for the UHD, grabbed it with points

Re: B&N - 50% off Criterion Sale

That's really interesting, I had not seen any discussion of it since the original release until the Criterion was announced and now it's a huge cult classic.

I never actually got around to watching it, but I guess I need to put it on the list.

According to the-numbers.com, it made just shy of 100 million domestic and a little more than 200 worldwide. Is that "a shitload" for a movie like this?
