Not really, no.

I have a ton of old magazines I've grabbed from archive.org (Omni, Twilight Zone, old computer magazines); they're all scanned image files, so no text. They can be sort of readable on a Kindle, depending on the quality of the scans and other factors. They're still are better viewed on a regular computer or tablet like an iPad.

Some .pdf documents look okay on a Kindle e-reader if they're plain text and it's big enough.

I've never sent a .pdf to Amazon for conversion; I always sideload with Calibre.

Yeah, I can't read books on a backlit screen, even with a yellowish background. It kills my eyes.

I like the backlighting on my Paperwhite. I've tried the phone................ Yuch.

I agree... and I've never liked reading on any other e-reader.

The Paperwhite is as close to ink and paper as you can get.

I did my fifth day of the Assistant thing today and got a notification that I got the $10 credit. Apparently it only applies for an order of $50 or more and expires August 3.

Has anyone successfully used this credit? I tried putting over $50 worth of stuff shipped and sold by Amazon in my cart but the credit isn't showing, and I can't seem to find the terms of the deal (it doesn't show up in my Assistant anymore).

I got an email stating I had received the credit, but it's not showing up anywhere on my account. I'm guessing it's just applied on Prime Day when I purchase something.

I got an email about the credit from buying the prime day eGift Card, and already used that credit, but never got an email about the Assistant credit.

I started a 30 day free trial and ordered the Harry Potter 4K set, for my son, at $73. With shipping, import fees and exchange, it came to about $112 CDN. Considering the cheapest it's ever been on Amazon.ca is $99 (for about a nanosecond), and it's more typically $150 ($192 lately), this is a good deal.
