Criterion Sale 50% off MSRP - Barnes & Noble July 10, 2020 through ??Aug 2, 2020
I'm going to start the thread based on current known information. It can be locked if the information turns out to be incorrect or changes.
Criterion Sale 50% off MSRP - Barnes & Noble SUMMER Sale
July 10, 2020 Start Date appears confirmed by several people now
End Date -- presumed August 2, 2020 but only one source of this and the end date of the summer sale has always been a little soft
General Rules -- new owners, new sale, COVID interactions. Everything is a bit of a work in progress.
1) 50% price calculated from the official MSRP. Assuming this will include online and in-store Criterions
2) Online and In-store Sale for items released prior to the official end of the sale. Preorders of items released after the end date have not been allowed for preorder online nor as ShiptoHome items in the last several sales
3) Coupons unlikely to apply without a manual override.
4)First couple reports are saying the 10% Member discount is applying, so one disaster averted
5) DVD, Bluray included. Eclipse and Essentials branded sets also included
6) International Shipping is always an unknown. Some sales it seems to be allowed, others not, and still others one person can get it to work and another in the same country can't.
7) Backordered or OOS items generally can't be ordered online or ShiptoHome
8) Prices usually start changing online sometime after Midnight ET, but it rarely is immediate and often it can take a few hours for all the items to be marked down. The end of the sale, the prices can last a bit later than Midnight ET, but often the prices change back well before 3am ET.

Bamboozled got the Criterion Blu-ray treatment?! Nice, I had no idea! And look, there's a great review here at DVDTalk by Tyler Foster, thank you. I've been trying to take good care of my long-OOP DVD and will pick this up during the sale, absolutely.
I'm a big fan of the documentary Salesman from many perspectives, including faith, historical, and entertainment, and it really is clear there's an influence here for Mamet and Glengarry Glenross. I saw it when Hulu had a ton of Criterion films and haven't seen it in years, I want to pick it up this round. The other I've really wanted to pick up for a long time and I think I finally will is His Girl Friday, one of my favorite movies. The last time I had this sale on my radar and a little extra cash, that was still in release and didn't qualify, something like that.
Wow, after not getting any for the longest time, looks like at least three, this round!

I'd never heard of Come and See, but all the reviews I've seen make it sound intense and worthwhile, but definitely not escapist entertainment.
I hate to say it, but with fall and winter quickly approaching, which I anticipate being very difficult on many levels, I don't know that I can see the value in "worthwhile but unpleasant" at this particular point in my life.

I will wait before ordering for someone to post definitively that the 10% off membership discount does not work on the Criterion sale items but based on what I have read here and elsewhere it seems pretty certain. Maybe for some lucky people it will work at the start of the sale before they correct it.

The Criterion sale is really the only reason I pay for a membership. Will be an easy no when they ask if I want to renew.

Mine auto-renewed this time (no idea why) a full month before it was set to expire. I had to spend like 40 minutes on hold before I could cancel. My current membership should last until the Bruce Lee set comes out.

War, Bruce and Tokyo for me. I’ve never liked sports but I love a good sports movie.

That's normal unless you've turned the auto renew off in the Member Preferences -- usually they'll send a message telling you it's going to renew 4 weeks or 30 days prior to expiration. Unfortunately that email often gets lost in the normal BN ad emails.

Wondering how many of you Criterion Collectors also subscribe to the Criterion channel?

As much as I’d probably love it and watch it, I never will. I have to justify the thousands I’ve spent on having a once nearly complete Criterion collection, so I only watch them on disc.

So, we're selling off DVDs on eBay we no longer want, and I'm much more picky with what I buy on physical disc nowadays.
Also, I don't care for the vast majority of the films Criterion deems worthy, so it's likely cheaper for me to pick up a handful a year at the sale (plus the occasional used find).

It's 6:24 am EST and the sale is up on BN's website and it says the sale ends August 2.
Edited to add my BN membership did not result in an extra 10% off Some Like It Hot

B&N has never deducted the 10% when placing orders online.
The one exception to that was if you went into a physical B&M store and did a ship-to-home. You'd get the discount then, but I think most locations have now nixed that option too.

Im calling customer service in a bit to investigate and cancel the membership if it’s not going to be applied to CC selections. Wonder if Amazon will PM them?

Yeah I got a membership the other day in anticipation of the sale but it did not take off anything when I added the olympics set! It also was charging me for shipping when it’s supposed to be free with membership!!!

Hopefully someone with confirm whether or not an in store purchase gets a 10% discount. As other have said the 10% discount has not worked on their website in many years. They offer free shipping on any size order to members online as opposed to a $35 minimum for non members. All the Criterions setting in my cart are on sale waiting for me to pull the trigger including "The Lady Eve" which is a preorder being released during the sale.

On the Home Theater Forum website someone stated that the 10% off discount was working on in store purchases at least for now .
