Got War, Bruce and Tokyo Olympiad. Wanted that last one for years and never got the first version.

Best news I've heard this morning. Don't know if the earlier issues were mistakes with the reopening or if the upper levels reconsidered after their initial responses

The number one thing I'll be after is a copy of the Ingmar Bergman Collection without a spider-wrap attached to it (in-store)

Even though it's unlikely (due to the price) , I'm going out later today to check out a couple of stores.

During the last Criterion B&N sale, I tried to get this set but the manager was holding all copies for customers long past the window allowed.

The Bruce Lee set is $62 and change with this sale. It comes out next Tuesday. I'm going to try to sneak my way to the local BN store and try to get it.

I can also confirm that the 10% membership discount worked in store and in addition it worked with " ship to home." My store had none of the recent releases I wanted in stock though the website said they were all available for in store pick up. Ship to home was available at the check out counter only as the customer service desk is closed. You wait online , tell the cashier you want to place a "ship to home order" and they send you to someone else at the counter. That person does the "ship to home " order and prints out the sheet. You then have to go back to the original cashier to pay. I had a bit of a problem as I renewed my membership today on the website. Big Mistake. My card still showed as expired at the store. They were able to confirm that I did renew but that the card hadn't updated yet. They manually gave me the 10% off.
I didn't try to order any preorders ship to home. I assume you can do this if you could before.

Looks like all the pre-orders for the Bruce Lee set have sold out.

Picked up War of the Worlds, Portrait of a Lady on Fire, and The Cameraman. Portrait was a tricky one, had to go to a different store next town over to find it and was told at both stores that it was selling fast. Got the last one.

Re: Criterion Sale 50% off MSRP - Barnes & Noble July 10, 2020 through ??Aug 2, 2020

Went to 4 different B&N stores today. All with varying stock levels.

Didn't find a copy of Ingmar Bergman's Cinema. One store had one that was pretty banged up that someone was carrying around the store. Another store said they got in 5+ copies early this morning and all were sold immediately.

One store had 3 copies of the Bruce Lee: His Greatest Hits set behind the counter but I didn't ask for them to scan it to see if it would allow for a sale.

I ended up picking up:

Bamboozled
The Battle of Algiers
Detour
Fanny & Alexander
Picnic At Hanging Rock
Portrait of a Lady On Fire
Scenes From A Marriage
Wildlife
Wild Strawberries

I'll probably end up making 1-2 more trips before the month is over but I'm happy with what I was able to find today.

The Bruce Lee sets street date is Tuesday. Not sure if they would have been able to sell it to you today anyways. But why did you hesitate on it? It is on sale.

Not sure why I hesitated. I knew the street date was for next week and if something in the computer popped up when scanned, no harm/no foul.

Re: Criterion Sale 50% off MSRP - Barnes & Noble July 10, 2020 through ??Aug 2, 2020

Stopped in B&N about 4pm.

Was looking to get Lady Snowblood, The Rohmer set, and possibly Come And See.

This store has usually been fairly well stocked in advance of these, though if you don't get there early the first day there's a good chance you won't find the most latest releases.

Not one of those three was there and stock levels in general looked about 75% of what they usually are for these things.

It's possible the shut down threw them off their prep for this, but whatever the reason I'll probably just go and place the order online. I didn't renew my membership so it really doesn't make a difference either way.

TBH, I'm in no real hurry to place an order though. I may just sit this one out altogether.

Well I didn’t place my order right away and the main thing I want is out of stock. Oh well, I wasn’t in a huge hurry anyways so maybe there will be a re-stock. I don’t have a Barnes & Noble locally or even anywhere close by.

Bruce Lee set is all I really want to spend money on, but with it out of stock online now, I may just wait for November or the next criterion.com flash sale. I have all the movies in excellent presentation on Blu-ray already so no rush really.

Hariseldon, you seem to be the person to ask. Does Barnes & Noble still run the gift card deal around Christmas where if you buy a gift card for X amount of dollars you get $10 free?

I'm in Canada and with the border closed I'll be sitting out of this sale, so I'm looking for some kind of silver lining.

Gotta honestly say I have never been lucky to happen upon any “lucky finds” when it comes to my many years of collecting media, DVD’s, music etc. That changed yesterday. After finding that B/N membership was 10% off in store only! Free shipping for online orders, went to my local store to grab a few titles while waiting for Olympics Set to come back in stock. Noticed the Bergman Set up on a shelf and sitting next to it, as I ? What I was seeing, BUT there were not 1 but 2 copies of the Zatoichi BR box Set!!! I knew those have been OOP and going for like $400 and up brand new on eBay.
Nervously played dumb and asked the CSR if I could purchase both copies, 1 for a present/ 1 for me. Yep, grabbed both and exited quickly quite surprised at what I had just happened upon! I will keep 1 for me and put the other one up for sale. Also a store 50 miles away had a copy of the Del Toro 3 film box set, which I believe is also OOP or going to be so store is shipping to my home. A really lucky and successful CC day-

Nice score. Is that the B&N in the Target plaza off 41?

This past March was the first year I'd been down there and didn't even pop in there once. And that was well before everything spiraled out of control.

Congrats on a wonderful find! I have the Zatoichi set but had no idea it was out of print.

That's great that you can still find OOP films at B&N.

When I used to work retail in my early twenties, we were required to send back all media once it had gone out of print.

Living 5-minutes from a B&N is problematic

Picked up:

John Cassavetes: Five Films
Husbands
A Film Trilogy by Ingmar Bergman

They did last Christmas though the 1st part of the sale had a slightly different promotion ($5 off $25 coupons I think) with an earlier exp date so they had to be used before Christmas, but the BF Promo GC ($10 off for buying $50 with an exp date of Late Feb was still good). Until they say otehrwise I'll assume they will this year. I bought a bunch of the BF codes, but no sales popped up in Jan/Feb -- ended up buying something for full price and returning it which changed the promo GC into a Nromal GC that I used yesterday. Roundabout, but it worked out
in the end.

Correction to an earlier post. Ship to home does not give you the 10% off membership discount unless you can get the clerk or their manager to manually apply it. I ordered "The Lady Eve" preorder ship to home and discount was not given. I asked to see manager and they applied it. A little frustrating because "The Lady Eve" was on a shelf behind the check out but they wouldn't allow me to buy it since it is not being released until Tuesday.

I don't think Zatoichi is actually oop. I think it's just between printings and is currently tough to find. The Criterion store lists it as "currently unavailable" as opposed to "out of print".

It seems so, but it's been that way since at least Christmas. I wish Criterion.com would put some some of explanation up or even an expected restock date.

I bought it at release, but it's just been a long long time since it's been in stock on any of th usual sites. B&N stores had some listed in stock back in March, but the site appears to have pulled the inventory tracker since
obviously there are still some copies out there. If I dare a 2nd trip I'll look at a couple stores I know had stock back in Jan
