Criterion Sale 50% off MSRP - Barnes & Noble Fall Sale Nov 1 - Dec 1, 2019

Criterion Sale 50% off MSRP - Barnes & Noble Fall Sale

Nov 1, 2019 Start Date
End Date -- December 1, 2019

General Rules -- assuming it follows recent sales
1) 50% price calculated from the official MSRP -- not from some other listed daily online or in-store price.
2) Online and In-store Sale for items released prior to the official end of the sale. Preorders of items released after the end date have not been allowed for preorder online nor as ShiptoHome items in the last several sales
3) Coupons unlikely to apply without a manual override.
4) 10% Member discount should work on In-store and Store generated ShiptoHome orders.
5) DVD, Bluray included. Eclipse and Essentials branded sets also
6) International Shipping is always an unknown. Some sales it seems to be allowed, others not, and still others one person can get it to work and another in the same country can't.
7) Backordered or OOS items generally can't be ordered online or ShiptoHome

8) For added saving many people use discounted Gift Cards from various resellers or B&N own Holiday Card sales which generally start this week. Assuming B&N runs that same promotion this year -- $10 Promo Gift Card for buying regular $75 GC -- approx 12% net Discount (online this is usually once per account, instore $10 card for every $75). Around BF weeked B&N often bumps this to $10 Promo Card for $50 purchase -- approx 18%. Disclaimer -- Promo Cards shouldn't activate until 12/26 and have had an expiration date of 2/28 the last couple of years.

9) Prices usually start changing online sometime after Midnight ET, but it rarely is immediate and often it can take a few hours for all the items to be marked down. The end of the sale, the prices can last a bit later than Midnight ET, but often the prices change back well before 3am ET.

I will probably go light on this one. Just The Flavor of Green Tea Over Rice, Matewan, The Daytrippers and Cold War. Maybe Betty Blue.

Shazzbat! Any chance there's an overlap with an Arrow 50% sale, as has happened a number of times previously?

Didn't the last sale just end? I know there's a ton from that one that I still haven't opened.

For this sale, probably just Local Hero. I love When We Were Kings but have it on DVD and don't think it's really worth an upgrade; we'll see.

I have the previous Godzilla Criterion release and just don't think I need the whole massive set.

Certainly a chance at some overalap like 2017 or a lot of overlap like last year. Arrow sales haven't been around long enough to predict all that well yet

So 2 1/2 months. Okay. Since it's a twice-a-year thing, I kind of expected it at the end of the year. This is too soon a turn-around for me.

Re: Criterion Sale 50% off MSRP - Barnes & Noble Fall Sale starts Nov 1, 2019

It's always been July and November for whatever reason. We lobbied furiously for a March Sale even if only 2-3 weeks to even out the spacing, but B&N alway did it's own thing.

End date was 8/4/2019 so almost exactly 3 month from end to beginning.

Next Flash Sale should be near the end of Feb or early so not too hard to fill in some holes.

I may just get the Godziila box, if I am able to whittle it down to $100 using various thingamabobs and watchamacallits; nothing else is really pressing to me right now. Like BobO'Link, the Python and Abbott and Costello sets will be the focus of my November.

They were on the ball this sale. Most of the prices were active by 1:15 and I couldn't find an in-stock item that wasn't active by 1:30.

Arrow sale is up and includes a whopping 4 items! I assume more titles will get added through the day.

I already picked up the Godzilla set, after the gift cards I got at 17% off it came to about $93 which I'm happy with.

Got a Godzilla set on hold at my closest B&N. Will have to browse to see if there's anything else I want to grab today...

edit: Paid $109 after tax (50% off + 10% member discount)

I went to my local B&N and picked up the Godzilla set, Haxan, The Circus, and Polyester Blu ray. Like Godzilla, the set towers over everything else. I didn't expect it to be so big.

Will get interesting when Amazon starts PMing randomly. The Bergman set last year took some time but did happen eventually. Looking at the Godzilla set

Re: Criterion Sale 50% off MSRP - Barnes & Noble Fall Sale starts Nov 1, 2019

There are still a few titles left that I didn't, or couldn't, grab in the Target sale that I would like to get, but I'm in absolutely no hurry.
I'm at least going to wait and see if they run another gift card promotion first.
Every year past, I've always jumped the gun and then I still grab a bunch of gift cards and have to justify them with purchases of things I could just as easily pass on.
I feel like I've already done that with the Target sales, so I need to be more circumspect going forward.

I already got WWWK from Target. The other three are the ones I'm likely going to get before it's over. Possibly along with One-Eyed Jacks, Berlin Alexanderplatz, and possibly an Ozu.
Happily, after binge watching a bunch of the closet videos, I'm more stoked to dip into my unwatched pile of treasures, than I am to pick up more stuff just now. That' attitude is probably going to shift by the end of the month, but I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts.

s.
I'm a little worried about the lack of the GC promo being active already, but at one of the stores the manager "Thought" is might be scheduled to start next week -- she said Nov 8 though I still think the 5th. Both the clerk and manager knew exactly what
GC promotion I was asking about at least

The later the 10/75 GC promotion starts the less likely the 10/50 Black Friday deal might happen though with BF being very late this year that might explain why the 10/75 is a week late. If they start next week then that's 3 full weeks before the
enhanced deal might be offered. I always look at the expiration date of the GC promotion. The first couple of year it went right to BF-Weekend Sunday. When they started the 10/50, the 10/75 ended before Thansgiving on a Monday or Tuesday.

I was stoked to get Godzilla during this sale, but the absolutely impractical packaging (hope you like figuring out how to store a Where's Waldo sized book on your shelf) pushed this way down my priorities list.

I rotated it 90 degrees and it now sits comfortably next to my Bergman set.
It's going to be okay.
