I managed to come up with a bit over $50 for free shipping but can't work up enough muster to place the order. It's mostly titles that sound interesting but no "must haves." There are a few of the $4.99 titles that'd be upgrades over DVDs I already own but they're also movies I just don't watch often enough to warrant the upgrade. If it were the first time purchasing those it'd be an easy purchase but not as upgrades, even at that low price.

It is, frankly, kind of a shit selection.

I've noticed that when they do these sales, it feels like a really random selection of titles, so if you're a fan of a certain genre, you'll only find one or two titles you don't have, and not enough to justify an order with shipping charges.

I see, maybe one or two titles on there that I'd be slightly interested in, and a one that I bought about three years ago during another one of these sales. Meh.

I made out a pretty big order

I blind buy a lot during these sales and I’d say my luck is about 70-30. More often than not, I’m glad I made the purchase. A few real stinkers though like Chosen Survivors and White Lightning.
If anyone is on the fence over Vigilante Force, pull the trigger. It’s apart of this sale and it’s great.

I've been wanting "Boys" at $5, but I'm unable to justify hitting $50 for free ship for stuff I'm not that excited about when I literally have 2-3 thousand dvd's & blu's (mostly dvd's) I haven't watched.

330 titles on sale! Even brand-new releases are $10-$13. (I write a good number of KL Studio Classics reviews, if you're looking for any inspiration.)

Thanks for posting! I wish there was a way to sort by recent additions. It may just be because I'm tired, but after scanning a few pages, this looks like the same stuff that's been on sale all month. I'll look again tomorrow after I get some sleep.

Here's the newest ones that got released:

https://www.kinolorber.com/list/view...e-video?page=1

You can tell which ones are on sale by the price. Also the while supplies sale is overlapping. So now is the best time to buy from that sale since it's easier to hit the $50 threshold for free shipping.

Thank you! I will look at all 3 sales Sunday. There's already over $50 in my cart.

What's the 3rd sale ? I know the current one + the 'until stock lasts' earlier sale.

re: Kino Lorber & KL Studio Classics sales, discounts, and deals

I'm debating on whether to pull the trigger. As I've noticed, I can no longer definitively count on a Kino to be an upgrade, like we used to be able to do. Pulling everything out of my cart that I already had on DVD (& "Boys" sold out.... grr.) brings me right to $50 on 8 blind buys.

I'd be very open to feedback on whether it's worth it to pull the Trigger on this cart from anyone who's seen these films:

I, Jane Doe (Blu-ray)

$5.49 $5.49

The House on Carroll Street (Blu-ray)

$6.49 $6.49

Nightfall (DVD)

$6.99 $6.99

The Tie that Binds (Special Edition) (Blu-ray)

$4.99 $4.99

Chamber of Horrors (DVD)

$5.49 $5.49

Cover Up (Blu-ray)

$6.99 $6.99

Curse of the Faceless Man (Blu-ray)

$7.99 $7.99

Phantom From 10,000 Leagues (Blu-ray)

$5.99 $5.99

Check out

https://www.justwatch.com/us

and see if they're not already on an existing streaming service of some kind that you have access to. You can save shitload of money. I was going to buy a couple of titles but when I went to the Just Watch site all of the films in my cart were available in HD via services I already subscribe to. Saved a ton.

Thanks! I don't have my TV set up for streaming (though it's capable) & I don't like watching on my pc (pc's have 27" monitors, & my tv is 55") or phone. Also, for me if something's worth watching, I like to own a physical copy (even if it's just a file). The only streaming service that I know I have access to is the free section of Amazon Prime video. I usually do check ebay these days for Kino before spending $'s.

Nightfall (1988) is a horrible movie. I saw it decades ago on VHS, after having read both the short story and novel. The movie is based only on the short story, because the novel hadn't been released yet, so it's not like the novel at all, but it's barely even like the short story, abandoning most of the plot and only really keeping the main premise. Instead, a whole lot of meandering nothing happens for the bulk of the movie.

On IMDB it has a 2.6 out of 10 score. I feel that's too generous.

Here's the Wikipedia article. Note that the article doesn't have a section about the plot, because there really isn't any. Read what's included under "production" for just how absolutely out of his element the and wrong-headed the writer/director was for this project.

I just found a copy of the film up on Youtube, and skimmed through it to revive my musty memory. I had forgotten that there's some nudity and sex scenes in it, likely due to the film being so tedious that even these don't redeem it (not that they're done all that well anyway).

You could say this about pretty much any media, not just Kino.

There are 2 items in my cart that are listed as oos. In their faq, Kino states that oos items are usually available within 5 days. Kino doesn't state anything specific about what I would call clearance items ($4.99 blu-rays). Does anyone know if it's safe to assume they would come back in stock? Does Kino bill your card before the items are back in stock? If they are oop, & that drops me below $50, do they add shipping?

Temporarily out of stock items usually are still available but not sure with the clearance sale. They hold up your order until it is all in stock. Not sure when they charge your card. I liked the House on Carroll street when I saw it at the theater.

re: Kino Lorber & KL Studio Classics sales, discounts, and deals

I just s/w them. The rep was working from home & seemed new, so take this with a little salt:

1. They pre auth at time of order, but don't bill until shipping (i.e. DON'T USE PAYPAL!)
2. If the original order is over $50 & something is gone forever, they will not charge shipping
3. All of my 4 oos items (including the clearance of "Boys" will come back in
4. Due to Covid, expect 2 week restock rather than their usual 5 day.

Prices have not gone up in my cart, so I can still order. I need to decide soon. There's also a $350 box set from the UK I want & I can't afford both.

The House on Carroll Street (Blu-ray): Good film.
Curse of the Faceless Man (Blu-ray): I don't own it but it has a pretty good transfer. Bitrate was 25bps and up.
The Tie that Binds (Special Edition) (Blu-ray): The other version out there is Mill Creek. Vomit due to Mill Creek releasing it. For $5, this kino can't be worse. Wasn't too bad. Pacing is a little odd, but it's the time period. Suspense-orientated director.

Not sure if you're into older Harrison Ford movies, but Force 10 From Navarone got a Kino upgrade.

I always used paypal with them. Not a single problem ever. They ship and restock fast too. Shout Factory they aren’t fo shizzle. And finally their movies are way better than Shout’s but that’s just my personal taste.

I placed my order on 5/26. It has not shipped as of yet. Order status shows as "new" on the website. And as I was told, they put a pre-auth on my card that dropped off. If it hasn't shipped by Tuesday, they will get a phone call.
