Wasn't able to use the second snail mail 20% off coupon this morning on the Dietrich/Von Sternberg set.
The cashier did try it though.

I wonder if the cashier I had the other day overrode it herself or if it actually just went thru on it's own?

I stopped by the B&N near my work and bought Kagemusha and Amarcord to replace my old DVDs. I could cry when I see on DVD Profiler how much I paid back when the Deep Discount 20% sale was a big event. $27 for the DVDs back in 2006!

Re: Barnes & Noble Criterion 50% Off MSRP Sale June 29 through August 6, 2018

I picked up Female Trouble and The Breakfast Club.

Already watched Female Trouble, looked and sounded quite good. Nice extras too, including 15 minutes of deleted/cut footage. Can't wait for more Waters, hopefully Desperate Living is next.

I would have picked up The Silence of the Lambs and Rififi if the Bayshore store had them in stock. I'll be hitting the Mayfair store before the end of the month. No idea why I've never seen Rififi because I love a good heist film. It's a bit of a plot point in the final season of The Americans, which put it back on my radar.

When the November Bergman box hits 50$ off, it's going to be very tempting.

I picked up The Silence of the Lambs, Rififi, The Graduate, and Beyond the Valley of The Dolls yesterday. That will be it for me this sale. Looking forward to getting some of the upcoming releases during the November sale.

I actually happened to be near a B&N yesterday so I stopped in and picked up Vampyr. I had a gift card I bought from Cardpool that helped bring my out of pocket under $18.

Do you guys pay for that membership? Spend $25/save 10%. I don't shop there except for Criterion Collection and don't anticipate buying 13 titles in a year...

The only reason I keep my membership is the Criterion and other various DVD/BluRay sales. I've gotten hooked on the Acorn and other British TV releases. Not to mention their sales on Arrow video and others. My local store keeps a lot of physical media in store so it has a good selection to choose from when I get the 10% off. Plus you can have them order it for you and still get the 10% off. I occasionally find low priced hard cover books as well.

Re: Barnes & Noble Criterion 50% Off MSRP Sale June 29 through August 6, 2018

I was going to let it lapse this year (it rolled over in May), but I wasn't quick enough.

The 10% off is effectively paying for the tax. I may not spend $250 on Criterions alone, but come Q4 I usually find myself buying a bunch of books and also taking advantage of other deals.
It helps to have a membership because there is no minimum purchase to qualify for free shipping.
It isn't Prime, and it takes a lot longer usually, but I place plenty of under $20 orders during the holidays and throughout the year.

That said, I'm going to try to cut it off next year for the summer sale and, if warranted, start it back up closer to November.

My sister still buys a lot of books so she gets the membership. They have always let me use it to get the discount, they just look it up using her phone number. Never had an issue. I do miss the days when Bruce at the Mayfair store would just start stacking whatever coupons he could, whether I brought any with me or not.

I wouldn't pay for the membership myself now without being able to use the member coupons.

Thanks! I'll do that now.

Picked up S,L, &V yesterday. Got the same cashier as before and just like last time she happily took the coupon and took the initiative to override without any fuss at all.

Sad Sale.

This weekend all CDs are 50% off. In store only. Goodbye music except Vinyl.

The sale included CD/DVD combo. I got the Simon and Garfunkel Concert in Central Park Combo for 50% off. 50% off is off list price not already reduced prices.

Are you saying it's a CD closeout sale?

Re: Barnes & Noble Criterion 50% Off MSRP Sale June 29 through August 6, 2018

I have no inside information about it being a close out sale and that has not been announced. It just seems like it is with the sale being only in store and pretty last minute. There were small black and white photocopies of the 50% off all CD's signs in the two stores I visited rather than professional looking for sale signs like the Criterion sale. The sale is only 3 days and ends Sunday.

Re: Barnes & Noble Criterion 50% Off MSRP Sale June 29 through August 6, 2018

These are my purchases during this sale after sitting out the past couple:

Female Trouble
The Breakfast Club
Boyhood
Punch-Drunk Love
Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown
The Virgin Suicides
El Sur
The Piano Teacher
Bull Durham
Short Cuts
The Lure

I will browse the catalog one more time before I call it a wrap on this one. I had just been picking up the most interesting ones from Amazon and elsewhere during the sale hiatus. Still disappointed that they no longer allow coupons although I understand why.

I got a groupon invite email this morning - $5 for a $10 barnes & noble giftcard

So check your inboxes, as its invite only. I have 2 groupon accounts and only 1 got this promotion. Since we’re near the end of this sale, its nice timing.

I have similar thoughts. Even off list prices, retailers just can't make any money selling CDs at 50% discount.

This appears to be Barnes & Noble permanently downsizing their music section in the coming weeks.

Went to the Huntington Beach store in SoCal today to pick up the Dietrich set. Every one of the 6 sets was mangled by the security cable being pulled so snugly, that it had literally torn into the packaging at eight points. Was the same with other multi-sets including the Eclipse series. Returned without one. Common sense seriously eludes retailers.

Re: Barnes & Noble Criterion 50% Off MSRP Sale June 29 through August 6, 2018

I called the B&N nearest me. They told me they only carry 20 cd titles at any time. I wish the sale was on the website; when I first heard of it; people were talking about picking up cd box sets for peanuts.

At least out my part of the country, B&N was the last store that even pretended to carry a decent selection of music cd's. We're pretty much down to Amazon & the Super D evil Empire (DD, Import cd's, etc; they own 10 or so net retailers). There's ebay also; at least they don't charge sales tax; but they have so many dishonest sellers.

I actually prefer 24 bit downloads for music; the 1 issue is the price is ridiculous (as is the profit margin).

How will ship to home work during the 40% off all blu rays sale. I have used it to buy Warner Archive titles in the past. If the media department is unattended can they do that at the regular check out? Would you be holding up the line for other customers? Did anyone buy a CD box set during the 50% off sale this weekend? Since box sets are mainly kept behind the cash register did you help yourself or try to find an employee to get you what you wanted?

Re: Barnes & Noble Criterion 50% Off MSRP Sale June 29 through August 6, 2018

Many Barnes on the East coast still have fairly robust media sections for now, though they stopped having a dedicated media employee since Christmas. It seems to be decided on a store-by-store basis. Some have already phased out the majority of their CDs and now focus on vinyl.

Yes, the CD box sets were a steal this weekend with a membership discount and coupons applied. I cleaned up.

I'm jealous! As I posted earlier, the local B&N told me they regularly carry only 20 titles on cd.
