classic Flix sale

Classic flix sale is having a pretty decent sale

https://www.classicflix.com/products...al_offer_id=40

I got pretty much all the noirs. They have an Anthony Man/John Alton bundle which saves some money if you are interested in them. Still a bit pricey (3/$50) but cheaper than I have ever seen them elsewhere.

Re: classic Flix sale

The three John Alton discs are getting repackaged March 20th in a single-case "Film Noir Collection" for $39.99. ClassicFlix seems to be milking those singles a bit, even on sale, but their other prices aren't bad.

Re: classic Flix sale

that version is the stripped down/no supplements triple packaging. I would rather spend the extra $ and get the supplements.

btw -classicflix is also selling that stripped down packaging for $28. https://www.classicflix.com/products...x-restorations

Confirmed? If so, that's good to know.

check out the packaging.. this is a single case containing multiple discs (hopefully!)

read the description of each release. in the cheaper package, there is no mention of any supplements, while in the more expensive triple bundle packaging, these are just the 3 releases sold together - each with packed extras.

so it seems that they are releasing the 3-in-1 packaging just for those who want a cheaper alternative to get the movies without the supplements.

At least that is what it seems to me.

They’re all on one disc.

I've never heard of this company. Are these pressed or burned?

Re: classic Flix sale

Yes, buying the John Alton bundle directly is certainly cheaper than using Amazon, and about $5 cheaper than the individual sale prices. I hadn't planned to drop $50 just now, but it's tempting.

On the other hand, I loathe revisiting Classic Flix's bloated-beyond-all-reason web site. I would have used Opera Mini, but it can't stomach their 10 MB+ of JavaScript.

Yeah, had I seen that on the Amazon listing originally, it would've been a better indicator that the extras were dropped than the packaging itself. Had it actually been a three-disc set -- which, frankly, it should be at that price -- there might've been reason to suspect they were just bundling the existing discs together but not mentioning the bonus features on-pack (wouldn't be the first time this happened in the history of the medium). Of course, $40 SRP for a single disc and no supplements (?) makes them seem even more gouge-y, but I guess they gotta pay for all their efforts somehow.

Re: classic Flix sale

All on 1 for the Blu-ray (BD-50) and 2 for the DVD.

As they are relatively shorter films, bit rate will be the same as on the special editions so image quality will be exactly the same.

We don't sacrifice quality and we'll always encode at superior bit rates even if it means extra discs, but in this case it wasn't needed.

This collection contains the films, but no bonus content or booklets.

I can't remember how much they charged me, but didn't think it killed the deal...

update: checked. it worked to be about 80 cents shipping per movie... not bad, imho

Re: classic Flix sale

Got an email yesterday about an upgraded version of this sale, with (I think?) a larger selection of available titles and (definitely) a better noir package that reduces the price-per-title, especially on those Altons, to around $12.85 each!

Main sale:
https://www.classicflix.com/products...al_offer_id=42

Noir 7-Pack - $89.99:

Wish I had $90 to spend on the Noir set. Don't laugh, but who is John Alton?

Re: classic Flix sale

I'd like to think his filmography speaks for itself:

www.imdb.com/name/nm0023003/

Many times not big budget films, but a number of notable films.

The bundle's only $3 less than the 7 individual titles put together, which isn't a discount at all. Am I missing something ? Is the S/H less on the bundle ?

Re: classic Flix sale

Three bucks is three bucks! I think my point was that -- at ~$13.28 per disc shipped -- the 7-pack just makes the three Alton SE's cheaper than buying them either individually (one is $16, the other two are $18, so ~$52 + shipping) or in the bundle of three ($49.99 + shipping), and the other four titles are worthy titles if not already owned.

I ordered the 7-pack. Shipping was $2.99.

And yes, I fully expect Classic Flix will have even better sales down the road -- even $10 a pop or less for the entirety of their Blu catalog wouldn't surprise me -- but I've wanted these noirs for a while and felt the price was fair enough compared to Amazon, etc.

Re: classic Flix sale

There’s the Alton set without the features for $27.99 that would make it even cheaper if you wanted to go that route.

This seems to indicate the new version is only 3 films rather than 7.

Yes. That’s the Alton collection, not the noir bundle. Two different things.

Re: classic Flix sale

Just got an email from Classic Flix for Black Friday:

Get ready for special savings as we'll be adding some BLACK FRIDAY BUNDLES to our Winter Stock-Up Sale in less than 48 hours!

Included will be a bundle with ALL 20 OF OUR RELEASES TO DATE -- which will make a great (albeit large) stocking stuffer.

Stay tuned...

P.S. could a mod change the title of this thread to "ClassicFlix Blu-ray sales" or some such, just so the name's spelled right and this can perhaps be a regular repository?
