Re: Best Buy -- Black Friday 2017 Ad

It's a little annoying that most items listed are by price and they therefore mix blu rays and DVDs together. You have to be careful what you are buying is a blu ray if that is what you want.

Haven't seen latest seasons blu rays of the CW DC shows marked down to $13 to $17 yet on any site.

Last year at least some of them were $15 at Target, but ONLY in-store. I picked up The Flash S2 there, for example.

They seem to prefer to hold a fair number of titles back from the ads and online, I'm guessing to avoid being price matched.

Does anyone actually go in store on BF anymore? I'm thinking price matching holdbacks would be self defeating.

Last time I actually went to a store on BF was when a pc monitor died on Thanksgiving & I couldn't wait for delivery. (If it had to die, that was great timing price wise!)

Reality -- I find as long as you avoid the first few hours of store opening, other than general traffic and parking BF is barely more crowded than normal weekend.
Walmart prices often go live for many movies sometime prior to the Official BF Kickoff date. I;ve done a lot of shopping at 1-2pm Thursday afternoon. Can't get to the special
shippers, but often the rack stock is already discounted in the computer.

BBY I often hit Friday 2-3pm and it's not that bad though some of the Doorbusters will be gone. Early Access usually makes it easy to get most of the main items though

The last few days Pre-Xmas I normally find much more crowded. Dec 22/23/24 this year being on a weekend if just about guaranteed to be far worse.

I've gone to Best Buy the last 2 "Black Thursdays" and other than taking a longer extra longer to find parking and standing in line, you can usually be out the door in about 45 minutes.

I usually find everything I want within minutes of walking in the door.

Chances are most here won't go there on Thursday since it's Thanksgiving, but just throwing it out there that it's not really that awful.

That is unless you have some kind of social anxiety disorder and are scared of going outside and a few minor crowds.

I'm off on Thanksgiving and don't really have any big family dinners planned. I might catch a movie and there's a Best Buy literally 2 minutes away from it. I might try to time going there after the movie finishes and seeing what I can snag.

I mostly agree, the changes implemented by stores in the past 3-4 years has made Black Friday shopping a far easier experience. After someone died in Michigan(?) a few years ago getting crushed on Black Friday, there seems to have been a sea change in how stores approach staging Black Friday itself.

Also opening up on Thanksgiving itself has changed Black Friday. The crowds are more spread out and there isn't the intensity I used to see 20 years ago.

I don't know if younger generations are just softer these days, but Black Friday used to have more violence between shoppers. I once saw a Black Friday brawl start over a hot Transformers toy.

Walmart used to pricematch through BF. I would go there early and have them match others and do all my shopping at one place. But Walmart scrapped in-store pricematching earlier this year.

Apparently there seem to be some stores/region that still allow it, but every few months another group of posters find out their store no longer does so eventually it will be all stores.
They stopped PMing here a couple of months ago. I was checking out and saw the sign hanging at the checkout. It had been out for ~3 weeks when I saw the sign (I rarely go there these days).

I expect it'll be all stores for BF this year. They've eliminated it on the web site for those days:

No price matches to other retailers for prices shown from Thanksgiving Day through Cyber-Monday

Online shopping question: can I add items into my cart before the sale, and then will the BF prices reflect when the sales start? Or do you have to add items after the scheduled "BF start time"?

you can load up your cart now. It will always reflect the latest prices. Some people have mentioned BB empties your online cart before the BF sale. So keep your selected items in the 'Save for later' list and move them to the cart prior to purchase

Nice! Beware the food and tv albums are just compilations. Get the studio albums, instead.

Looks like Amazon matched many of the Weird Al prices.

My sympathies.

Although in my experience many of the shows on BF sales are on the temporary cardboard shippers too, so your store may get in some that they don't usually stock.

The early access deals are active for elite members though there wasn't a direct link for them when I was just on.

Got most of what I wanted (for myself and gifts) with the early access. Disappointed as a good portion of my list is not part of the early access sale. If I still want to snag them, I will have to do it along with the larger populace vying for the deals (online or in store). But in the end, maybe if I miss something, whatever.

I just placed my order for Wonder Woman and Ex- Machina on UHD and Suicide Squad and Lego Batman in 3D. Too bad it didn't give me the option of picking it up, but at least I got those prices locked in.

There were quite a number of UHD titles for $10. I might end up going back for a couple more.

Re: Best Buy -- Black Friday 2017 Ad

Bummed out at the lack of deals the past couple years.
Grabbed a few Blu-ray discs from a couple different places.
I did find the new Resident Evil Blu and for some reason it sold it to me for 3.49, though the price is $5.99 now. Same thing happened with Underworld Blood Wars. I don't know if it was from the hammering the site was getting or what.
I'll take the discount

RE did the same thing to me; U didn't. It looked like they gave/thought it as part of an extra deal - buy a certain number/amount, save more..?

I recall it saying something about a bundle, but it had no details.
