Re: Deep Discount Olive Films Halloween BOGO
I don't mind the lack of special features but it looks like Olive is giving these signature editions a newer transfer than their old discs. Do they plan on doing this with their entire catalog?

After viewing some of the titles from the not-so-recent DDD BOGO, have decided the ONLY price Olive BD's are worth is $4.99, no more. Haven't seen any of the signature editions yet but this is a company committed to shitty transfers - I mean, these guys are in Mill Creek territory charging premiums for unworthy offerings. The only winners here are the studios licensing their crappy HD scans to Olive and Olive.

Movies like Undertow and Caveman are lucky to hit Blu-ray at all. For fans of movies with limited mass appeal in 2016, Olive prices their stuff pretty fairly. The $10 sale was especially nice.

Re: Deep Discount Olive Films Halloween BOGO
I bought 44 discs in that sale, and I'd wager about seven of them will (or might) get the deluxe re-issue treatment while the rest -- good films all, based on what I've watched so far, and some of them being replacements for old DVDs -- will probably never see the light of day on disc ever again. I wouldn't bite at regular price, but $10 was more than fair. Yeah, I suppose I could've waited until they maybe dropped to $4.99 -- and if they ever do, I'll certainly scoop up even more blind buys -- but I'm not holding my breath for that to happen en masse anytime soon. A lot of what I picked up are fairly obscure movies from the 40s, 50s and 60s, and as much as I enjoy them, I can finally understand Olive not shelling out for top-drawer restorations. In most cases, flaws in the original prints are more than tolerable, if they're there at all.

Re: OLIVE Films BOGO Sale at Deep Discount
Thanks for the heads-up. Glad this is an annual thing, apparently. Grabbed these to finish off the remaining Olive stuff I want to either see and sell, or own:
The Monster Of Piedras Blancas
The Horrible Dr. Hichcock
The Return of Dracula
Tam Lin
Strategic Air Command
One Of Our Aircraft Is Missing
Won Ton Ton, The Dog Who Saved Hollywood (curious to see this ever since it made the Golden Turkey Awards)
The Geisha Boy
Rock-A-Bye Baby
Who's Minding the Store
Only thing left for me now are four Signature Series upgrades, and these BOGO prices seem to be as low as they've gone . . .

The prices were a little cheaper when the sale first started.
I highly recommend Strategic Air Command for Jimmy Stewart fans. The film transfer looks great.

I think they did that last year, too, although I ordered almost immediately when that one went live and the regular price was $20.97 out of the gate, so I can live with $20.99 this year, as long as that "little cheaper" wasn't crazy lower (?).

Re: OLIVE Films BOGO Sale at Deep Discount
Now that you mention it, I actually did see a bunch at that price, but by the time I logged in they were all ones I that already own, or didn't want, so if the ones I did get were at that price, some of them must've been really short-lived. I also checked last year's order or 44 bogo discs and realized that I actually got a (very) small number of titles for that price then, too. Regardless, even the higher sale price still beats what I've seen for Olive discs anywhere else, particularly on this scale. And then there's the resale value up here should any of them not become, uhh, permanent residents!

King Solomon's Mines looks serviceable but don't expect a dazzling transfer. The movie itself is recommended as a b-movie Indiana Jones rip-off with a young Sharon Stone.

I'll still give it a spin. A young Sharon Stone will probably hold my attention.
