Just FYI, as I posted in the other thread, the Logan 4K on sale at Walmart is a 2-disc version that lacks the Noir version available in the original 4-disc set, which is on sale at BB and Amazon for $14.99.

Eh I don't care much about that. Thanks for info, though.

Seriously? What the hell. Packaging looks the same. How can you tell? Wal-mart's page is lacking in terms of detail.

I want the Noir version so I guess I'll cancel and order at Amazon.

Unforgiven is $14.99 at Amazon - had to bite.
Bridge on the River Kwai is a LD special at $14.49 at the time of this writing

It's hard to spot but Walmart's page does say "discs:2". Since both the Vudu and iTunes digital copies have Noir as an extra, and I could live with watching Noir in HD rather than UHD, I decided to stick with the Walmart 2-disc.

Me too. Just like Mad Max Fury Road: Black and Chrome. It's an itunes extra so no need for a separate BD purchase. I mainly just wanted logan to switch out the discs in my steelbook since I missed the 4k version so $9.99 beats $14.99.

The Planet Earth II Set is at an all time low on Amazon of $27.99

https://www.amazon.com/Planet-Earth-.../dp/B01LTHYICS

Something tells me to wait for $24.99 though...

Just paid $29.99 on BF. $2 is no big deal, but yeah, seems like it's going to keep going down.

Pricematching a Target Cyber Week deal.

If you bought from Best Buy at $29.99 last week, you can call them to price match the $2.

Does that Planet Earth II set include the blu rays as well? Or just 4K discs?

Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's the 2 4k discs and then a third blu-ray disc which is a special feature about how they did the darn thing.

Re: 4K / Ultra HD Blu-ray: Discounts and deals

So wrong forum perhaps, but a quick tech question. No 4K TV here, but have some 4K discs because the combo packs were cheaper, and soon to have an Xbox One S as a player. Will my 4K discs work on a non-4K TV?

Josh Z wrote about this a little while back if you'd like some really detailed impressions.

His experience (with a different player, admittedly) is that the regular Blu-ray discs in combo packs looked better than the downconverted UHD discs. His disappointment mostly seems to be tied to the conversion from HDR to SDR.

I don't see why they wouldn't work. This post on another forum says it will:
http://www.avsforum.com/forum/149-bl...l#post48659873

Still, most of those UHD Blu-rays come with a standard Blu-ray, and you're unlikely to see any difference between them on a 1080p TV, unless said TV can actually handle HDR.

Good article, although it should be noted Josh Z was testing a Sony UBP-X800
standalone player. The Xbox One S and X boxes may do a better conversion.

Also, an interesting thing to think about is that I have a few UHD Blu-rays of IMAX films that have both SDR and HDR versions on them. So the SDR version may look fine played on a 1080p TV.

That said, you may be better off just playing the BDs from the UHD BS sets on a 1080p TV, if available. Only my Planet Earth II UHD set doesn't have any corresponding BDs.

Get the region free set from Amazon UK that includes the BD discs (albeit 1080i/50 Hz which seem to play fine on cheap BD players but with some issues on branded players)

^ Cool, thanks guys. I'm toying with switching my buying focus over to 4K discs, knowing that a 4K set is inevitable. Do the digital codes that come in 4K disc only packages down-convert to play on my older tech?

The digital copies will play in whatever resolution the device/bandwidth supports, so you can even play SD versions on a phone or low resolution tablet.

That said, whether the digital code redeems in 4K, or just in HD, is a bit of a technical nightmare. You may have to redeem the code on a specific site/service to get 4K, and it may or may not transfer to other sites in 4K via UV or MA.

This Google Sheet keeps track of what redeems in 4K where, and what transfers to 4K elsewhere:

I don't think Planet Earth II (any version) comes with code for a digital copy.

It is a nightmare. Basically every studio has a different policy about 4K digital copies and it varies between which MA provider you use.

Is this why trying to sell UV HD codes from 4K discs is so hard here? Does everyone here think they only output in 4K? That’s why no one wants to touch them?

Even at $4 or $5, which are super cheap for new releases, no one here seems to want them.
