Re: Criterion titles...they can be hit & miss. They remind me of the old Classics Illustrated comics line which would get onto some authors and "adapt" nearly every work by that author. Criterion seems to not only release the masterworks or rare titles by some directors but work their way through their entire output in some cases.
Meanwhile, there are some titles that beg for the deluxe treatment due to either being unavailable on DVD (The Big Sky) or only available in inferior public domain or OOP releases (Two Women, One-Eyed Jacks). Hopefully, they'll get around to them eventually (or Twilight Time, Kino, or someone else will release them properly...the One-Eyed Jacks blu-ray is, reportedly, a travesty).

One Eyed Jacks is getting a new 4k restoration by Universal and The Film Foundation. The issue with that one was always rights related. No one was sure who actually owned the film. Paramount and Universal finally figured it out and it will probably come out sometime in 2016.

I tend to narrow my focus towards things/themesgplots I'm more confident I'll enjoy, but even with often-but-not-exclusive filtering, it's the variety (coupled with the above) that is the draw: it isn't just a small genre/single focal point, there is eclecticism and novelty and difference, which exposes one (if amenable) to things that would never otherwise cross your radar. And many - not all, but certainly 60-80% plus - are good, enjoyable or excellent.

Was checking out the B&N 40% off sale and noticed that quite a few of the recent Criterion releases (The Graduate, Only Angels Have Wings, and In a Lonely Place) are presumably out of stock and only available through their marketplace sellers. The sale also applies to Shout Factory titles, so they may be useful in reaching the 30% plateau if your desired Criterions are coming up a little short.

If that coupon works as expected AND if the sale starts more efficiently at 12-1am ET than the 40% did, there is a possible 2+ hr overlap. The other known coupons have a longer lifespan in the sale and the 25% is the highest, but the 100+ price will force folks to consolidate into a single big order and hope everything qualifies and is in stock

Man. I spent so much during the 40% sale on Blu-ray Digibooks that my wallet has been depleted. I may relent and pick up a title or two with stacked coupons but I may have to wait til November for much of what I want. I just don't understand why they run these sales back-to-back like this.
