Just like we will never see the unaltered versions of Fantasia again. Many would say that's a good thing.

Re: Aladdin Deals Release Oct 13 2015

I already own the UK Steelbook so unless the reviews indicate that this is a worthwhile upgrade, I'll be sticking with that.

The reason that Disney doesn't release Steelbooks in the US anymore is because Scanavo sued them. For some reason, it doesn't affect the Marvel releases. I guess Marvel has all the say in collectible packaging.

Just like we'll never see "Songs of the South". Another time, different standards - personally, I think art is art and leave well enough alone.

I wouldn't go that far. Especially internationally where there has been official SotS releases in the past. But the original cut of Fantasia seems to be completely gone around the globe. Probably the difference between the uncomfortable content of SotS and the in your face racist depictions cut from Fantasia.

Re: Aladdin Deals Release Oct 13 2015

We'll never see Songs of the South ever released again by Disney as long as they hold its copyright. Hollywood's hysterical PC concerns in the last ten years have risen far above any historical norms that have gone before. So unless some fanatic billionaire plans to take control of Disney (current market cap is $180B) and personally demands its release, it might as well have never existed. PC has become a kind of religion for them.

Re: Aladdin Deals Release Oct 13 2015

If Disney really cared about every PC complaint they received we would have never seen another release of Dumbo, Peter Pan, Lady and The Tramp, or even Aladdin. Even after the change in the famous line in the song, Aladdin is still filled with racial stereotypes. At least for the villains. Not for our light skinned heroes.

SotS will have it's day. Probably in Asia again to gauge interest and continued backslash.

I saw it as a child and it put me to sleep (not something made for kids). What changes happened?

I've watched Song of the South twice in the past year; it's not a very good movie in the first place.

Maybe not but the music in it is fantastic.

It's ironic how Disney considers the movie un-releasable, yet there's rides, characters & songs at Disneyland/Disneyworld.

It's better than many of their other so called classics. Especially the musical numbers.

So true. I have to wonder just how many people go through all of that area and have no idea what it's all about. So many know that "Zip" song and yet have no idea what it comes from.

And besides the main song everyone knows, there isn't a single other song that's notable.

Didn't know there'd been a lawsuit - I wondered if Zavvi had managed to corner the global market on Disney steelbooks...?

There could also be an element of Disney/BestBuy preferring to sell Disney film as child-friendly releases rather than pure collectibles.

Assuming a level of seriousness: WHY? What possible point is there in such a nose/spite stance..? Particularly in this minor case.

Seems like an overreaction, but it does kick off the movie and sticks out like a sore thumb. It would be different if they went back and re-recorded the whole track so the vocals were consistent.

That is LITERALLY what his stance is about.

Personally, I don't mind it. It was an incredibly popular movie and will be watched for generations. If Arab-Americans feel it portrays them in an unfavorable light, I have no problem with the change (which was made for the VHS I believe). Anyone who thinks Disney might even consider going back and reinserting potentially racially offensive lyrics is clearly not in touch with corporate reality in the 21st Century.

Having never seen Song of the South, I originally knew the song from Splash.

Those "steelbooks" posted in the picture aren't actually steelbooks but I believe metal paks, which was just another company's version. Scanavo sued that company I believe, which spelled the end of those preorder cases (though the first preorder case actually was a steelbook for Snow White). The original Avengers also had a metalpak case, not a steelbook. I have no clue why Best Buy seems to have abandoned the steelbook for all non-marvel steels though.

There was a wave many years ago that included the sleeping beauty posted, it also had the first 3 PotC films (4th was metal pak preorder), Nightmare before Christmas, Pinocchio, WallE, Ratatouille and a few others.
