re: Barnes & Noble 50% off Criterions! (11/1/16 - 11/27/16)

I decided to get a couple titles and it's my first time giving this sale a shot. It was tempting to splurge on many titles I'd love to get, but can't afford to buy all at once. But I kept myself in check and only ordered two titles I wanted the most at the moment, which was All That Jazz and Scanners. I also had a 15% coupon to use on one item, and also found a good price on a book I ordered entitled Excluded by Julia Serano which I've been wanting to read for a total of $52 with tax.

So that's my little splurge for the time being since money is tight at the moment. But other titles I'd want are Repo Man, Videodrome, Naked Lunch, Red River, Stagecoach, It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World, Godzilla, and a few others I can't recall at the moment.

re: Barnes & Noble 50% off Criterions! (11/1/16 - 11/27/16)

I received some member coupons in the mail today including two 20% off coupons good in-store or online. It's the first time I ever received coupons from them in the mail since the initial membership package...

Used my two mailer member coupons today for Rififi and Thief. With 20% off coupon and member discount in Oregon (no sales tax) these were $14.39.

If some more coupons show up, I will pick up three or four more.

20% off code for the most expensive item in your cart:

BNRMN18

Valid through tomorrow, apparently. Confirmed that it brings the Jacques Tati set down to $49.99 before tax. Wow...

Actually expires tonight at 2:59 AM ET. This is the last full day to use it. Also you can use coupon BNBLOGGER to save 15% online. Same expiration.

I grabbed 12 more today - and I am done for the month except for L'Avventura.

Thanks for this! So far I've bought The Vanishing, On the Waterfront and Eraserhead. Will probably go back for All That Jazz before the sale ends.

I'll add that I was once semi-officially advised that physically printing out several copies essentially demonstrated that you were 'entitled' to several coupons that 'coincidentally' had the same code...

But, technically, the wording is quite clear: one per customer per day. And if you push it, they are within their rights to refuse your business. It doesn't happen often, and many will allow unlimited use of the same coupon (so long as the system allows it, which it usually does), but... be careful. A little argument is beneficial; too much is not.

Hm.. hadn't realised the Les Blank was out in time.

I wonder if B&N will do 50% off the book which is also out in the next week as well..?

Is the Thursday coupon being emailed to non-members? If not, I'm open to an extra one! TIA

I totally blanked on this last week as I was on vacation, so I wound up only ordering a $100 BN GC (via cc reward points) on Monday. I'm crossing my fingers it arrives before the sale ends...otherwise, I'll just hold on to it for the next one I guess.

Do you mind my asking what card you have...? Ours has only ever given us enough points for a $10 gift card. Which is still nice, but...!

BoA World MC. It takes about 12.5K points to get the $100 Gift Cards, so I decided to bank them for the BN Criterion sale this time around and totally blanked on redeeming them as soon as I hit the threshold.

I've been reading great things about the package for It Happened One Night, and I don't own it in any form, so I'll probably pick it up when I go for All That Jazz (and probably Repo Man...). With the three I've already bought/ordered, this is the most I've ever acquired at the B&N sales.

Absolutely! A classic. The extras are just extra incentive. (Like I needed it.)

re: Barnes & Noble 50% off Criterions! (11/1/16 - 11/27/16)

Went out tonight specifically to get It Happened..., but they didn't have any copies in store. And only 2 are showing up as on the way !? Weird that that would be all they are going to stock for the rest of the sale- especially when they had no less than 7 copies of My Darling Clementine (after I already bought one on the first day).

Hopefully when I go back Tuesday for L'Avventura they'll have IHON.

Ended up getting The Freshman tonight using a 15% off coupon.

If the coupons pan out right, I think I may end up getting a couple more titles beyond those last two on Tuesday. I finally have 3D capability so Pina is now on my radar and looks like a sure thing (almost regret not getting it tonight instead of the Lloyd). And Red Desert has piqued my interest as well.

So far it Happened One Night is the only Criterion I have picked up during the sale. Had one member 20% coupon to use and decided to at least get that one at a local store before it expired. Luckily the store had one copy in stock. If you have a membership there are now a couple of 20% online coupons active for the next 2 days (see page 1 in the coupon thread). Actually no membership is required for the coupons, but free shipping with a membership and 20% off is not too bad if your local store is out of stock.

re: Barnes & Noble 50% off Criterions! (11/1/16 - 11/27/16)

After tax though, those 20% coupons effectively become more like 10-12% in store coupons.

I still wouldn't sneer at the extra $1.80 off. The only problem is I had a lot of bad luck ordering Criterions online during the summer. Most of them arrived with busted cases, which meant I had to go back and return them anyway.

I may still give it a shot though. I had my budget for this sale estimated at full ( straight 50%) discount price, so any extra savings is going to put me ahead.

I have one of the snail mail 20% off coupons left- it's either going to IHON or L'Avventura.
I used the other to order the monstrous new Taschen Marvel book. 20% off of $117 just seemed more worthwhile than 20% off of $18.

re: Barnes & Noble 50% off Criterions! (11/1/16 - 11/27/16)

At least it's in a regular plastic case and might have a better chance of making it in decent shape. Seems like so many online stores are using flimsy light packaging to save costs. I have had good luck with online orders at B&N, but have not done any recently.

Actually I don't have a huge wishlist this sale and might only get a few more before it ends. I'm definitely getting the Tati set when the 30% coupon is active. Maybe a few more and that's it since money is tight this year. However I do have over a $100 in B&N gift cards and that at least won't add anymore debt for this month.

How do you figure? You're paying the same percentage of tax before and after the coupon. For example, $19.99 with 6% sales tax (here in PA) would be 21.19, and using a 20% off coupon would make it 15.99, or 16.95 after tax. The discount would be 4.24, which is still 20% of 21.19.

Should have clarified "If you have a membership..." an online purchase won't be able to take advantage of the automatic 10% off the top that you get in store. 6% tax is on the low end. Where I am, it's almost 9%- either way, that 10% off the top covers the tax added on and only takes off an extra $.40 to $.10 for every $10.

Sometimes online will have a discounted price that makes up for that, but not on the Criterion sales.
With a membership a 10% in store coupon will end up costing you the same as a 20% online only coupon.
