Fuck the coupons. I went ahead and ordered. Maybe they'll have one by the time Lone Wolf and Cub comes out.

So the coupons don't work in store and the only reason people are getting the coupon discount is because clerks are generously giving it to people. I can't imagine that will last very long if they have to manually give credit to everyone who presents a coupon. Hopefully later coupons will work but it seems Barnes and Noble and/or Criterion has made the decision that 50% off is the maximum discount unless you have a membership with the extra 10% off.

As of this minute the BNRMN20 20% coupon is working with Criterions using the $40 qualifying items workaround.
I used it once during the first hour the sale began, then it stopped working for most folk, now I just had another hole to burn in the wallet, placed a second order and it's back online again.
I saved over $250 for my biennial big haul.

No problem - and glad it worked for you! Here's to hoping it'll stay online!

I got it to work as well on Zatoichi. Gave up my members' 10% discount, but at least I'll have it in case coupons are still verboten on BF.

My problem is that I found a non-Criterion item I wanted, but it's only $36. Can't figure out what to spend another $4 on!

I'm looking for current $5/$50 and/or $8/$40 coupons. I'm at the store, but using my iPhone I'm not finding any in-store coupons that I could immediately use. If anyone could be so kind to post any in-store coupons here, I'd much appreciate it. Thx!

I got a 15% email coupon today, but it's excluded . I guess I'm waiting until the next Criterion sale online.
"not eligible for purchases of the following products and services: Barnes & Noble Memberships, Gift Cards, eGift Cards, gift-wrapping, textbooks, print on demand products, digital content (including but not limited to NOOK Books™, NOOK Magazines™, and NOOK Periodicals), NOOK® devices, NOOK accessories that are already discounted, other hardware and electronics, software, products available for pre-order, products from the Rosetta Stone Series, Criterion Collection Blu-rays and DVDs, Da Vinci Jr 3D Printer, Sphero products, all LEGO® items in the Toys & Games Department"

I'll keep an eye out on this thread in case a new coupon is allowed. And if the past helpful clerks are still working, I may get them to apply coupons manually as they've done in the past.
Might pick up Lone Wolf & Cub just in case it goes OOP before the next Criterion sale, but the only definite one I'll get is One-Eyed Jacks since this has been a major want (I've sent at least 5 emails to Criterion requesting it over the years).

So, if I'm reading correctly. Barnes & Noble blocked you from using their coupons on criterions online and in store?!?!?
Does this place want to go out of business?

Sad. I have 2 mail coupons I'll try to use in store next week. I don't have a B&N near me so hopefully I can use them. The mail coupons don't say you can't use them on criterions so I'm hoping that's a bypass.

re: Barnes & Noble 50% off Criterions! (11/1/16 - 11/28/16)
I was looking thru the small print on 7 different in store coupons I
currently have. 2 snail mail 20's, 1 store anniversary 20, 1 member
20, 3 non-member 15's and I noticed the following. That only two of
the store coupons (the 1 member 20 and the 1 non-member 15 that
showed up in my e-mail on 11-3-16 that are good thru 11-06-16 are
the only two that have excludes criterion collection in the small print.
The other five do not have that in the small print.
If any clerks try to say no coupons at all. They need to be shown the
small print. Only two different coupons put criterion collection in the
excludes list (it's inserted right after rosetta stone steries). All other
in-store coupons DO NOT have it on the excludes list.
Just the member 20 and the non-member 15 that we all got in our
e-mails thursday morning are the only two that have the no criterion
collection in the small print. I think we should be good with all other
in-store coupons that are currently available.

re: Barnes & Noble 50% off Criterions! (11/1/16 - 11/28/16)
It will generally be listed as processing until it ships or more likely with that many items until parts of teh order ships and then the remaining items will stay at the processing stage. With the beginning of the big sale I would be surprised to see them ship all at once or honestly terribly quickly. It seems to the larger orders will take longer to enter the shipping stage.
I am going to be the victim of a hefty Customs charge at this rate...

Disappointed it appears His Girl Friday isn't part of the sale.

Because excluding coupons on a product line that is probably well less than 1% of their total overall sales is going to drive them out of business. Get real.

My Zatoichi box set arrived all banged to sh*t. No packaging or packing materials in the outer box at all, so I took it back to a store to exchange.
The only way they could get it to work was to allow the 20% member coupon I had along with the 10% discount, so it wound up working out in my favor. $72 for a $200 item....not toooo shabby.

Exactly. So much sanctimonious hand-wringing this time, especially on the other forum. Seems people have forgotten the fun of this sale.

re: Barnes & Noble 50% off Criterions! (11/1/16 - 11/28/16)
We're not members of barnes and noble accounting. We are aware that the company had struggled to stay in business the past few years and we've all been speculating when does it finally go under.
My point of view is that to modify a sale when it's clear lots of people on this forum and elsewhere blow hundreds and thousands each time one of these sales happen. I've personally reached an employees sales goal for the day in one criterion purchase alone. I can't imagine they're selling 300 to 400 dollars worth of books in an hour.
Any company that is facing financial difficulties logically needs all the business and revenue they can get. It's why they've diversified the store to include not just books and movies.
Best buy modified most of the stores approach and lay out, not to mention circuit city going out of business helped them.
For most of us who visit the store at this forum and others, these sales with coupons were the main reason we ever stepped in the store.
I am not sure how anyone can say decreasing profits, no matter how small, is best practice. It's not like the store is getting rid of movie sales to start selling tvs or appliances with higher profit margins.
The company clearly profits well from this sale or else they wouldn't annually have it 3-4 times a year.
