Cool. Can that be used with online retailers like Amazon or Best Buy or in-store only?

^I don't believe Amazon accepts manufacturers coupons. Maybe they'd do a price adjustment after, but I'm not sure. It's currently $19.96 there. I'm assuming it will be on sale at B&M stores like Target and Best Buy the week it's released.

I didn't realize this was coming out again. Didn't the last version of Ghostbusters come out only like 2 years ago? What's new with this version (besides being mastered in 4K)?

It's packaged with the sequel which was never released on Blu-ray until now.

It basically combines the last two versions of Ghostbusters that were on Blu-ray...the 4k version plus the bonus features that were on the original Blu-ray release. And, as the above poster mentioned, it's the first time Ghostbusters 2 has been available on the format.

Printed, thanks. Hopefully Target or Walmart will carry it in store and have a good release week price.

Is the 4K version a dramatic improvement over the 2009 release? I don't really care much for part II, so picture quality would be my only motivation to replace my current disc.

Yes. But expect more compression given the current 4K disc is feature only, while the 30th anniversary disc is loaded with supplements.

So they did a new encode from the 4K master so that they could fit the extras on the same disc, rather than using the existing 4K-sourced encode and adding a disc for the supplements? That stinks.

Yes. You can still get the current 4K disc for about $10, but the coupon above won't apply.

Cool deal. Hopefully someplace local gets the two pack anniversary digibook. Walmart seems to have really slimmed down their Blu-ray/DVD section where I'm at and Target is hit and miss on catalog releases. Those are basically my only options in town.

Target seems to get the bigger releases. Sony is doing a large push for this, I would assume they'll have some in stock at least the first week.

Good point. For $10 I might just do that and treat my existing disc as the extras disc. Looks like it's currently $13 at Amazon.

FTR, there are gonna be a few new features for the first movie:
NEW! Who You Gonna Call: A Ghostbusters Retrospective - Roundtable Discussion with Director Ivan Reitman and Dan Aykroyd (Part 1)
NEW! Poster Art Gallery – Gallery 1988 artwork
NEW! "Ghostbusters" Music Video – Ray Parker, Jr.

And doesn't anyone know how big the 4K encode was?

Re: $5 Off Any Ghostbusters Blu-ray (includes 30th Anniversary DigiBook)

Nevermind, I just checked, and according to the info on caps-a-holic, the transfer was 33,794,211,840 bytes, or about 31.5GB. Doesn't that mean there could be enough room for the features without compressing it?

This site says the extras on the 2009 disc took up 6GB, so they could easily fit on the new disc without a re-encode of the film and would have fit on the original 4K release if Sony would have been so inclined.

My Other Self - were you assuming that they did a re-encode or did you hear that somewhere else?

I never said anything about a new re-encode. The speculation on other message boards have been due to the amount of supplements that there would be some compression.

I never did the size-check to verify how much the 2013 4K encode took up on the disc. Seems like there should be enough room.

Maybe we misunderstood each other then. In post #13 you quoted my "So they did a new encode to fit the extras on the disc..." question and you answered "Yes."

I misunderstood. My apologies.

The breakdown is for releases:

2009 BD Disc ("overly grainy")
2013 4K Remaster (best presentation)
2013 4K Remaster w/ 2014 added supplements (on same disc)

A new disc is being authored just for this release, it's not a new encode. That's why the assumption on other's parts is that the new master created last year will be further compressed with the supplements.

Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification.

Isn't the amount of compression of the video on the disc determined at encoding time though? I understand it's the same 4K master source, but when it's encoded for Blu-ray using one of the BD standard codecs (MPEG-2, MPEG-4, AVC ,etc), the level of compression and thus final file size is determined. Maybe I'm just using the wrong term though.
