This seems like the thread should be renamed to SterlingBen's Walgreens Blu-ray Deals

When it comes to Blu/DVD markdown no two Walgreens are the same, this thread is a reminder of sorts that they do do these clearances from time to time.

to replicate this deal, my local Walgreens needs to carry media....which they replaced with mounds of cheap chocolate

I had them check the price of Home Blu and it scanned at 29.99. The clearance ones must have special sticker applied at some local stores. I was hoping it was a price in the system based on barcode but no such luck.

Walgreens went 90% off on Halloween today. Including a small display of halloween movies (all originally $5.99, now only $0.59).

I got Beetlejuice and some kids DVDs, also saw Paranormal, Gremlins, some Scooby movies. There were more but that is all I can remember.

Re: Local Walgreens marked down all Blu-rays and Dvds

Picked up a few more at another walgreens out in the sticks. Looks like pretty old stock but the prices were right.

Local Stuff:
Tulsa History Series 3 pack - $4.99
2010: Journey Though Tornado Alley - $4.99

Mainstream DVD:
Fireside Reflections - $0.50 (Christmas Fireplace loops)
Krippendorf's Tribe - $0.99
Elvis - The Great Performances - $4.24
Justin Timberlake Live From Madison Square Garden - $1.49

Blus
Beginners - $1.49
Burn After Reading - $1.49
The American - $1.49
2012 (Two Disc Special Edition) - $3.99
The Wiz - $1.99

Saw a ton of other stuff, lots of things that if they had been on Blu instead of DVD I would have purchased and lots of things that they are going to have trouble giving away.

They also had a bunch of music CDs on clearance and I picked up a handful of eclectic stuff in the $1.50 a piece range.

Re: Local Walgreens marked down all Blu-rays and Dvds

My Walgreens finally marked down their DVD/Blu-ray stock. Both DVDs and Blu-rays were $3 each. I didn't see much to tempt me, but I wound up buying Silver Linings Playbook on Blu.

UPDATE 1/19/16:

In an effort to, according to a friend who works at Walgreens, "get these things out of here because they're taking up too much space," Walgreens marked all of the DVD and Blu-rays down again. I was only going to buy a few, but when it was explained to me that most of the discs were $1, I went a little crazy (as is often the case).

Here's what I got:

4 Comedy Film Favorites (Enough Said / Little Miss Sunshine / Sideways / The Way, Way Back) - $1
4 Family Film Favorites (Mrs. Doubtfire / Marley & Me / We Bought a Zoo / Mr. Popper's Penguins) - $1
Greenberg Blu-ray - $1
MacGruber Blu-ray - $1
The Kids Are All Right Blu-ray - $1
It's Complicated Blu-ray - $1
Duplicity Blu-ray - $1
Away We Go Blu-ray - $1
Spooky Buddies DVD/Blu-ray combo pack - $1
Prom Blu-ray/DVD - $1
Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure Blu-ray/DVD - $1
Alpha Dog Blu-ray/DVD - $1
Erin Brockovich Blu-ray/DVD - $1
Gangster Squad Blu-ray/DVD - $1
A Perfect Getaway Blu-ray - $1
Changeling (2008) Blu-ray - $1
The American Blu-ray - $1
Olympus Has Fallen Blu-ray/DVD - $2
A Good Day to Die Hard Blu-ray/DVD - $2

Admittedly, I bought the Disney discs just for the DMR points.

Some very solid pickups. Where do you find these in Walgreens? Like any aisle in particular or by the cash register? I went to one and couldn't find any but didn't feel like walking through hair care and toothpaste only to look for movies.

They were in the very center of the store at my Walgreens. The way that my store is laid out is that there are aisles that run the length of the store, but they're broken in the middle by a cross-aisle. They were in a bin about midway down that cross-aisle.

Do we know if this mark down is chain wide?

This is the way that I understand it (and I could be mistaken here, so take all of this with a grain of salt): When a store gets a shipment of DVDs, whether it's one big title or a promotional bin of titles, there are start and end dates attached to the display. There's also a "return by" date that stores have to have unsold stock returned by, or they lose the chance to get credit back for those discs. Once they can't be returned, it's up to the store manager to do with them what he or she sees fit. My store kept them out at full price for a while, but they went into the storeroom well before Thanksgiving to make space for seasonal merchandise. Once the holidays were over, they were still in the storeroom, taking up too much space, so they were marked down and went out into a bin in the store. When they still didn't move, the manager decided to slash the prices because they were taking up space that could be better used by product that actually sold.

So, to make a long story short, there doesn't appear to be a chain-wide purge going on; instead, it's up to individual stores to handle it as they see fit--at least, that's what I'm getting from it.

Another place I need to stop at, though the 2 closest to me haven't had any video on the floor for quite awhile.

I feel like my Walgreens still has stock from before this thread began, but I've never seen anything marked down.

Re: Local Walgreens marked down all Blu-rays and Dvds

I found a few $1.99 titles at my stores. They weren't "marked down" per se. That's how the entire display was priced, but most were DVD's. I bought Nothing Like the Holidays... I haven't found any of these mainstream titles on clearance. But I will hit some more stores, since I am intrigued by the deals some of you are reporting...

Re: Local Walgreens marked down all Blu-rays and Dvds

The bin at the center of my nearest store only had Blu for $5.99, but it was only about 3/4ths full and I didn't see any of the titles mentioned, so it's possible the flea market reseller that haunts my neighborhood already hit that one. Another possibility is that they will get them later. About 2 years ago, someone posted about the "Mr. Show" season sets for $3 or $4 at Walgreen's. I didn't find any, but I happened to be in there a few weeks later and, lo an behold, there they were.

My store's blus are behind the cashier on the bottom shelf.

Yes, at the cashier's ankles.

I went to 2 WG late last week and another today, none of them had any BD's or DVD's on sale.

Same here. The blu-rays are 5.99 or 7.99, some of the titles mentioned here did show up, so they are still putting them out, but the local stores must have their own discretion discounting the price.

I stopped by my store recently. Found a few BDs. Home was one I remembered. It was something like $32.99.
